The narrative on Bronny James keeps switching, but it’s never positive. Fans found it controversial when the 19-year-old was selected as the 55th pick by the Los Angeles Lakers after his underwhelming performance for the University of South California. Now Bronny is being called out again for landing a 4-year guaranteed contract, which is usually rare for a 55th pick. Ultimately, a former NBA veteran has pinned the blame on LeBron James for “abuse of power,” and he believes it is something that Michael Jordan did not do with his son Marcus.

The hot question on the internet right now is if Bronny James deserves a 4-year guaranteed contract. Many have sided against the 19-year-old on this and his father LeBron James and agent Rich Paul are facing the heat. Steven Hunter, a former Orlando Magic star, firmly believes that James is the only reason why Bronny got a 4-year, $7.9 million contract. He openly called out the LA star on his Instagram with a few bold claims. 

Hunter wrote, “Late second-round picks don’t get guarantees (Especially before summer league). Typically late second-round picks don’t get 4 year guaranteed roster spot deals either. This wasn’t earned I’m sorry…It’s an egregious abuse of power from LBJ & Rich Paul.” Hunter pointed this as an unfair treatment for the young kids out there working day and night to get into the league. He said this “turns a lot of people off about Lebron.”

The Orlando Magic star believes this is a reason why people choose Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan over LeBron James. “Trust me MJ could’ve gotten one of his sons in the league… But he didn’t because MJ stands on earned not given and he would’ve never gave his son a sense of entitlement which is what Lebron James just did with Bronny.”

Michael Jordan has indeed been all in to support and back his children. “I’m gonna support you with the love and every effort, every inch of my body,” he had said. But would Marcus and Jordan find their names in Bronny and LeBron’s position? We will never know.

Was Marcus Jordan a better candidate for the NBA than Bronny James?

Marcus Jordan played for the University of Central Florida for three seasons from 2009-2012. His second season for the UCF Knights was the best of his career. He averaged 15.2 points, 3.3 assists, and 2.8 rebounds as a guard. He has a career average of 12.3 points, 2,7 assists, and 2.9 rebounds. But he did not pursue the sport further as he continued on an entrepreneurial path. “I want him to be his own person, you know?” Michael Jordan had said for his eldest son via TODAY interview, further extending to Marcus.

Coming to Bronny, the 19-year-old played only one season of college basketball wherein he averaged 4.8 points, 2.1 assists, and 2.1 rebounds. The numbers may not be in his favor, but Bronny is grateful for the opportunity, looking to improve after missing out in college. Hunter is not doubting Bronny’s skills to excel. He might turn out to be great just like his dad. 

“Not taking anything away from Bronny nor am I upset at Bronny… Just know that this is a manipulation of our league and the integrity of what it truly takes to get there,” said Hunter, pinning the blame solely on James.
