Klay Thompson‘s symbiotic run with the Golden State Warriors of more than a decade seems to have ended against his complete will. Reports have it that the 5x All-Star wanted to stay back, but the team failed to meet his terms. Subsequently, KT signed a 3-year, $50 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks. Nonetheless, moving on from his former franchise, Thompson shared a heartfelt goodbye message in an Instagram post. Meanwhile, multiple entities, including Michael Jordan‘s younger son, showered him with love and support.
Marcus Jordan, the son of an icon who himself has been the biggest contender for the GOAT status in the NBA, called Thompson a GOAT in the comment section using the “🐐” emoji. Also came along Thompson’s former teammate, Matt Barnes, who showed his support for the ex-Warriors star. “Legend,” he commented on the post.
Although Barnes had already played with the Warriors earlier, he played alongside KT for a short duration. But during this short stint, he secured his first and only NBA championship. And Barnes has always held a high regard for that 2017 Warriors team. “I think what stood out to me the most about that team was how egoless it was,” he once said on ‘Run it Back’.

Despite playing two seasons with the Miami Heat after his first Warriors stint, Iguodala managed to be on KT’s side for all his championships with the Warriors. He, in a way, even defended Thompson’s move to Mavericks, stating teams promise a lot but then back out when the time comes. And KT faced something similar with the Warriors, Andre claimed on ‘7 PM in Brooklyn’ podcast. Regardless, KT now has plenty cheer for the stint ahead.

The 5x All Star only suited up for Warriors so far in his NBA career. He thanked the Bay Area for what he termed “the best times” of his life. The caption to KT’s IG post further expressed his honor in that jersey he donned.
And although stated he wanted to help bring as many championships as possible to the team, the best part for Thompson was not the rings but the friendships he made. He further thanked every single person who worked for the betterment of the Warriors as a franchise. “Don’t be sad it’s over, be happy it happened. Until we meet again. Sea captain out,” said the 5x All Star, closing his heartfelt farewell message. Notably, Thompson’s relationship with the franchise reportedly became shaky after the contract discussions last season.

The fluctuation in his role in the team could’ve been another cause for his unhappiness with the franchise. Notably, GSW moved him to a bench role in late February. As for the stats, KT averaged his lowest since season 2012-13 at 17.9 ppg. However, earlier this week, the franchise wished Thompson for the future. And also mentioned the intentions to retire his No. 11 jersey when the time comes.
