Does Michael Jordan's philanthropy make him the GOAT off the court as well?

Despite his ongoing legal battle with NASCAR, Michael Jordan added another feather to his philanthropic hat. The donation to Providence Heart Institute also comes because of a personal reason. But that’s not the only way MJ gives back to society. His mother, Deloris Jordan, has been spreading awareness about an important issue for some time now. So let’s look back at some of the highest donations that MJ did over the years.

He has been working alongside the ‘Make-A-Wish Foundation’ since 1989. And last year, during his 60th birthday, the Bulls legend celebrated with a record-setting donation. The donation in focus was the largest one from an individual in the organization’s 43-year history. Not to forget, he has even worked as Make-A-Wish Chief Wish Ambassador since 2008, which is why the $10 million figure shouldn’t be a surprise. “For the past 34 years, it’s been an honor to partner with Make-A-Wish and help bring a smile and happiness to so many kids.” Michael Jordan said last year and highlighted the belief behind the cause.

Witnessing their strength and resilience during such a tough time in their lives has truly been an inspiration. I can’t think of a better birthday gift than seeing others join me in supporting Make-A-Wish so that every child can experience the magic of having their wish come true.” The support from the 6x NBA Champion in the recent donation of $1 million to the Heart Institute is closely associated with long-time friend Howard H White.

The seven-figure donation means that a cardiac amyloidosis center would be established and named White because the VP of the Jordan brand received a heart transplant from the hospital in 2020. “If you believe anything is possible, you owe it to the world to help someone else believe. I believe this new center will help save more lives, help people avoid needing a heart transplant like I did.” White said in a press release. “And I’m both humbled and inspired by the friends who are joining in to help Providence make this belief a reality.

Even Michael Jordan’s mother has worked as an advocate to raise awareness about a rare disease. Deloris Jordan was in Dayton, Ohio in November last year to educate the issue of sickle-cell anemia in her late husband’s memory. But that’s not the only project the Jordans have worked together on.

In May this year, Michael Jordan helped open another medical clinic for uninsured and underinsured residents in his home state of North Carolina. Alongside his mother, both were present at the opening of the third The Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic. The newest clinic was in Wilmington, North Carolina, and received a $10 million donation from MJ.

Previously, the two Novant Health Michael Jordan Family Clinics in Charlotte also received a donation of $7 million. There is no doubt that both Deloris and Michael Jordan would continue to support more philanthropic activities.
