Nothing like a sprinkle of #MJMondays for a shot of motivation at the start of the week. This week’s edition comes from the one and only Jeffrey Michael Jordan, the eldest of the Jordan kids. He’s reminscing about some ‘horse power’ this time. Jeffrey shared a throwback to the most memorable set of wheels in pop culture owned by Michael Jordan, something dubbed the ‘M AIR J’ thanks to its vanity plate.
That is, of course, the iconic black Ferrari His Airness owned. Jeffrey shared it with a horse emoji and the MJ Mondays hashtag. This remains one of the most pop culture defining images of his dad’s most famous car in an equally famous fleet. The black Ferrari was unforgettable for its vanity plate as much as its price. This Ferrari 512 TR reportedly cost MJ Sr. a cool $221,000 when he was still playing for the Chicago Bulls.
Jamal Crawford, a known MJ fan, commented, “Legendary!!” A few others pointed out that the camera crew around Jordan and his Ferrari in this picture were filming 1992’s Airtime, a documentary filming the Bulls’ 1991-92 season.

This 512 TR was the very same that he used to intimidate Chris Webber. It was apparently not uncommon for MJ with Scottie Pippen to flash a few cigars and this Ferrari for some ‘posturing’ before the rivals. But that wasn’t the most memorable story attached to this iconic vehicle.

Michael Jordan’s Ferarri was its own character
We saw Michael Jordan’s friend and security guard, Michael Wozniak, on The Last Dance and were instantly endeared by this duo. Back then, Wozniak was working security at the United Center and not for Jordan. Until the perm-haired former cop rear-ended Jordan’s SUV and shattered the glass.

Wozniak was ready to make up for it from his paycheck but Jordan completely brushed it off and hired Wozniak as his personal security. He travelled with Jordan to every major city with a team of former cops. On May 5, 1992, Jordan pulled up in the arena for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals in his black Ferrari. Flanked by Wozniak and his security team in matching uniforms, that imposing squad was photographed. It remains one of the coolest moments of the Black Cat frozen in time.

Air Jordan even released a collection dedicated to Wozniak and the security team’s apparel in that picture. The 512 TR itself was the inspiration behind a version of the Air Jordan 14. Which is your favorite moment of the famous M AIR J Ferrari?
