Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen or Someone Else: Who Received the Loudest Cheer at Bulls Ring of Honor Ceremony?

The cheers were loud at the United Center as the long-awaited ‘Ring of Honor’ ceremony finally took place. The inaugural inductees had the crowd going crazy. While the big three, Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and Dennis Rodman could not make it to the ceremony, fans did not forget to scream big for these Chicago Bulls idols. Anybody would think that Michael Jordan must have got the best response. However today, someone else stole the show! 

Chicago is a sports city and unlike normal fans, they tend to remember some of the legendary people of the Bulls organization. The above-mentioned Big 3 are indeed legends, but the impact that Phil Jackson had was unique. The former Bulls head coach was also one of the inductees today, who made a live appearance at the United Center, or should we call it his den? The 78-year-old got the loudest cheers today and as always he just stood there humbly. 

It is pretty obvious that Jordan and Pippen also got a huge roar as always. We are speaking about two of best players that the franchise has ever produced. But, what’s surprising was the fans did not forget the other stars as well. Tony Kukoc, Randy Brown, John Paxson etc. also got a huge standing ovation. Anyhow, what Jackson got was the loudest.

This is because his contribution to the Bulls organization is always a standalone. It might sound easy to coach a lot of talented players in the team, but to regulate them evenly and find the right person at the right time is not everyone’s cup of tea. Jackson was a specialist in it and it is only fair he receives such a heart-warming honor. 

Phil Jackson had his way of handling his players

Jackson had players of different mentalities in the team. Jordan is someone who always held his ego high, and then there was Dennis Rodman, who was at times never in his right mind. Remember Rodman’s sudden trip to Las Vegas in the middle of the season? That had his teammates and the Bulls organization furious. He was criticized left and right, but Jackson was the only one to understand him. Or rather, forgive him.

Rodman shared in an interview, “He (Phil Jackson) didn’t say sh** [about Vegas]. He said, ‘Dennis, make sure you be at practice, see you tomorrow.’ That’s all he said to me all the time.” In today’s NBA, things would have been a lot different. The 2-time DPOY also shared that Jackson told him he was the best player he ever coached. This is how understanding the legendary coach was. After his tenure with the Bulls, he continued his legacy at the Lakers alongside Kobe Bryant, where he added more titles to his resume.
