Michael Jordan‘s competitiveness made him one of the greatest ever to play basketball. That is also the same reason why many believe he was good at gambling. The Chicago Bulls icon brings the same energy that we see on the court to the casino table. So it’s pretty obvious that he taunts his opponents while gambling, too. However, did he find success in it, like he did in basketball? Here is what former NFL superstar Cam Newton has to say about MJ’s attitude while gambling.

Newton joined 2x NFL champion Shannon Sharpe on his podcast Club Shay Shay, where it was revealed that the former quarterback was a neighbor of Jordan in North Carolina. This allowed him to gamble with the 6x NBA champion, and that is when he found that Jordan was different from the others.

Newton shared, “I do some gambling, and I think I learned this quote around him[Jordan]…He was just having a little banter. Somebody asked him, ‘Hey how much you want to bet on this?’ Simply said by Mike, ‘Whatever makes you nervous.'” Newton considers this to be a huge flex. We have seen the same confidence and competitiveness from Jordan on the court.

He shared, “If you ask yourselves why does gambling…is so prominent with athletes because that rush…It’s either gambling or you are playing a sport, it coincides.” There are a few common things that Newton has discovered between playing sports and gambling.

He said, The nervousness, the anxiousness, that you kind of get the thrill. It’s like, ‘Is he going to make the shot?’…What’s coming next?” That’s an interesting observation from the Carolina Panthers icon. MJ was the best in the clutch, as we all know. Newton’s words convey that the Bulls legend displayed similar confidence while gambling too. No wonder athletes love to gamble!
