Might disappoint Magic Johnson fans this year, but there’s also an intriguing addition in Capital One commercials. These, from one of the corporate partners of the NCAA, have become a staple of March Madness, offering a blend of humor and nostalgia that fans eagerly await each year. The sight of legends like Johnson, Charles Barkley, Samuel L. Jackson, and Spike Lee sharing the screen has been nothing short of iconic. This year, however, there’ll be a significant change in the roster.
The update came during Chuck’s recent appearance on Arizona Sports when a discussion on Capital One spots emerged.
“They do a great job. I cannot wait… We add magic, not magic. We have magic… in Jen Gardner for the last five or six years. This year we have in Kareem. So I’m really excited about that,” Barkley said.

That’s right—Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is joining the lineup.
The change comes even though last year’s Capital One commercial was well-received by the fans. The hilarious “Magic Mart” ad? Magic Johnson himself hyped it on Instagram with a playful caption “You ready to get real this #MarchMadness? @samuelljackson and @officialspikelee, let me hear you say The Magic Mart is the best shop around.”

The camaraderie between the stars was pure gold. And fans couldn’t get enough. One even demanded a movie or TV show featuring the quartet of Spike Lee, Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson, and Samuel L. Jackson. There is no doubt that the fans love this aspect of the March Madness.
What have been the most enjoyable spots from Capital One?
Capital One has gifted us some of the most entertaining commercials, blending humor with a sprinkle of nostalgia. Remember that adorable moment when Charles Barkley joined a pickup game with kids? The promo starts with two kids picking teammates, and guess who gets picked first? Yep, the NBA legend himself.
Chuck’s reaction was pure gold as he shouted with childlike glee, “Yes! I still got it… I told you she’d pick me first!” You couldn’t help but smile at his playful excitement.
And who can forget the Make Every Wish Count promo with Magic Johnson? The Los Angeles Lakers legend played a genie, and let’s just say his wish-granting was as creative as it gets. Charles Barkley’s wish for wings? Granted—literally! Spike Lee’s desire for box seats? Delivered as actual boxes to sit on. The final moment, with Magic and Samuel L. Jackson chilling during March Madness, tied it all together hilariously.
Then there was the cowboy-themed spot. Barkley, Lee, and Jackson, dressed to the nines, sang Garth Brooks’ Friends in Low Places on horseback. If that doesn’t make you laugh, what will? It’s clear that Capital One knows how to keep us entertained! And even though we won’t have Magic Johnson, their move to add Kareem Abdul-Jabbar still sounds promising.
