A new album, a new haircare line, and a new spirit, that’s been Beyonce’s 2024 so far. And we’re not complaining. Someone as thrilled as the BeyHive is the longtime Knowles-Carter friend, Magic Johnson. Queen Bey has been stealthily growing her venture without advertising its celebrity connection. Her big yet subtle business moves impressed billionaire Magic Johnson, especially for the heartwarming touch the hitmaker’s brand has. And when Magic is in his feels, he goes to X and hypes his friends.
“Cookie and I want to congratulate to @Beyonce on the launch of her new premier whisky SirDavis, honoring her great-grandfather!” the NBA legend wrote. For all his work investing in multiple global businesses, running sports teams, and launching his own brands, Magic has not invested in a distillery himself. But he’s surrounded by friends who do, including Michael Jordan’s Cincoro.
Beyonce is the newest entrant in the spirits business. But Magic chose to advertise how she did it subtly. He shared a little unknown tidbit with his congratulatory message and it shows the “Texas Hold ‘Em” star is not doing it like the others.

“Beyoncé secretly submitted SirDavis to prestigious whisky contests in 2023 under the pseudonym “Davis Hogue Distilling Company” and won several awards,” read that post that also listed at least three of the awards SirDavis won. Davis Hogue is her great-grandfather’s name but the distilling company is a pseudonym to divert from the celebrity and parent company backing it.

Beyonce in fact teamed up with Moet Hennessy, the LVMH subsidiary. Apart from Davis, the name ‘Sir,’ connects to her and Jay-Z’s son, Sir carter. The family ties go a little deeper as Jay-Z has his own champagne brand, Armand de Brignac under LVMH.
In a statement, the songstress revealed that she recently found out her great-grandfather was a “moonshine man” in the American South during Prohibition. Per the SirDavis retelling, he stashed whiskey bottles in the knots of cedar trees for friends and family. Beyonce called the connection to her ancestor “fated.” It is finished, blended, and bottled in Texas, headquartered in Beyonce’s hometown of Houston.
SirDavis ties in Beyonce’s love for Japanese whiskey and a desire to honor her family legacy. The story behind SirDavis clearly resonates with Magic who goes way back with Queen Bey.
Magic Johnson’s the Beyhive hypeman
Magic’s supportive message has the same energy as Cookie’s friend, Tina Knowles hyping their daughter, Elisa, making great strides in the fashion business. Elisa Johnson has her own line of sunglasses and she’s found a loyal patron in Beyonce’s mom and her social circle.
The Johnsons’ connection to the Knowles-Carter fam has grown since their overlapping careers. The Lakers legend has campaigned for Album of the Year for Beyonce at the Grammys too. He’s not getting lured into the spirits biz but SirDavis might have a new patron in him and Cookie.

SirDavis currently retails for $89 a pop on on-demand delivery channels. The official launch is in September though details about it are still obscure. We have the feeling Magic and Cookie Johnson will show up for Beyonce at the launch in a big way.
