Collections have been a thing for Magic Johnson and he keeps making significant additions to them. Playing for 13 seasons in the NBA, the champ won five titles. However, his HIV diagnosis saw him retire early. Even after hanging up his jersey, the Lakers champion didn’t stop adding to his collection. But he took up a different role in the sports world. Just recently, the 5x NBA champ flaunted his ring collection as he made a new shiny addition.
This time, it’s a whole new arena. Having invested in the parent company, Axiomatic Gaming, he is part of Team Liquid. The team successfully defeated the formidable Gaimin Gladiators 3-0 in the grand final to win the Dota 2 tournament at The International. Considering Gaimin Gladiators’ history, Team Liquid achieved a historic feat, including going undefeated in the playoffs.
And with this, owner Johnson secured his 17th win, flaunting his 17th custom ring. “Last September, Team Liquid Dota made history, becoming the first team to ever go undefeated in the playoffs on their way to winning the Dota 2 World Championship at The International 2024! I just unboxed my custom championship ring from @teamliquid and Axiomatic Gaming—what an amazing addition to my collection! I’m now up to 17 championship rings: 11 with the Lakers, 1 with the Sparks, 1 with LAFC, 2 with the Dodgers, and now 2 with Team Liquid!” Johnson captioned his post.

His name can be seen emblazoned on the side, while the crest of Team Liquid rests at the top center of the ring. And the Lakers legend is over the moon. He isn’t the only notable investor. As per sources, Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan is also an investor. It’s a huge win for the entire team and its investors. Earlier this month, the roster made another great addition, which also got Johnson’s approval.
Magic Johnson was thrilled at Magnus Carlsen’s joining the team
Earlier in February, Team Liquid signed two top-ranked chess players to its roster, one of whom was Magnus Carlsen. Impressed at the Esports team’s new development, he took to X to share his thoughts.

“I’m so excited to see my @TeamLiquid welcome the GOAT of Chess @MagnusCarlsen into their fold of champions!” the Los Angeles Lakers legend wrote. Another chess player added to the roster was none other than Fabiano Caruana.
The billionaire is now a pro in the business world, thanks to some advice from the late Lakers owner Jerry Buss. He stepped into this arena by purchasing a minority stake in the Lakers in 1994, later selling it in 2010. And this was just the beginning. He went on to buy ownership stakes in a WNBA team as well as NFL team and more. The 3x NBA Finals MVP has cleverly continued to expand his presence in the business world as well as across different sports.
