A rare instance when Magic Johnson had to choose another team over cheering for his Washington Commanders. However, nothing to be shocked about, as the other team, just like the Commanders, is also partly owned by Buck. As most fans of the LA Lakers legend would know, he owns not just the Commanders but WNBA’s LA Sparks and MLB’s LA Dodgers as well.
It just so happens that the Dodgers’ Game 2 against the San Diego Padres in the division series coincides with the Commanders’ game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. But the 5x NBA champ would most likely have not minded staying in LA for his MLB team as he got to see them win 7-5 against the Padres in Game 1 tonight. Not being able to contain his happiness, Buck took to X and wrote, “Dodger Nation, we’re off to a great 1-0 start against our arch rival the Padres.”
Further in the post, he praised Shohei Ohtani for his 3-run home run. And Teoscar Hernandez for 2 runs batted in (RBI), while not forgetting to credit the relief pitchers as well. However, amid the celebration of the victory, the ex-NBA star did not forget about his other team’s upcoming game tomorrow.

“I’m bringing this winning energy over to my Commanders tomorrow! Even though Cookie and I can’t be there live because of the Dodgers’ Playoffs, we’ll be cheering all the way from Los Angeles,” Johnson wrote in a separate post on X.

Notably, in season 2022, the Dodgers faced a 3-1 loss against the Padres in their division series. And their last season run was even more embarrassing at the same level. Those who have been following MLB would know the Dodgers suffered a clean sweep at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks. However, this time around, Magic Johnson’s team has had a positive start in the division series.
Is Magic Johnson having a good season with his co-owned teams?
Things may not have started off on a great note for the Commanders with the team suffering a loss in the first game of the season. But ever since, the team has really picked up and won three consecutive games. In fact, the Commanders sit at the top of the NFC East.
Of the three major teams owned by Johnson, two of them are doing great except for the Sparks. Apart from not making it to the playoffs, the Sparks had a terrible season. Of the 40 games they played, the team won just 8 of them. Thus resulting in a low winning percentage of just 20%.

However, the possibility that Johnson might have got a chance to complain is quite thin. Apart from his Commanders’ solid start in the league, the Dodgers have been going quite strong this season. The team sits at the top spot in the National League in terms of winning percentage (60.5). So one thing is almost certain—Magic Johnson is most likely carrying a winning energy back to the Commanders.
