Married for more than 3 decades now, hard to believe there is still something about Magic Johnson that Cookie cannot keep up with. Buck had met Cookie Johnson at a party during their Michigan State University days. Having tied the knot in 1991, the couple has always stood strong through thick and thin of life. So, it’s less likely that there would still be habits in one that could drive the other person crazy. However, there is one thing about the LA Lakers icon himself, as revealed by him.

During an interview on ‘Replay TV & Movie Central,’ Buck mentioned how his father worked for General Motors for 30 years. And not only did he miss a single day of work, but never ran late for it either. “I’m just like him. I’m never late for anything and it drives Cookie crazy,” he said on the show. Taking on his father’s punctuality, the former Lakers star seems to have developed a knack for being the first one at all venues, whether it be the church, parties, or any other place.

“She (Cookie) said, ‘why do we always have to be the first one?’ I said, ‘baby, they said 7 so 6:30 is 7 to me,” he added. Mentioning that not even his employees can beat him in punctuality, Magic Johnson credited his parents for being successful. However, the former NBA star’s wife holds no less significance in his life. In fact, Johnson had once credited his wife for saving his life. “If Cookie had left, I’d probably be dead now,” he told ‘People’ magazine.

Notably, Buck was diagnosed with HIV just after 2 months of his marriage. But despite all the odds, Cookie Johnson decided to stick with her husband and battle it through. “We had just gotten married, but we’d been together off and on for almost 12 years before we got married. So, I wasn’t going to just walk away. I loved him…” she said, in an interview with Variety.

She further mentioned all she had back then were two options — to stay with Magic to help him live, or leave him and watch him die. And the 65-year-old not only chose the former one, but also became an active participant in her husband’s aim to raise awareness against HIV and help other victims of it. More than three decades after their marriage, the couple still stands strong.

The couple had started the vacation with their friends LaTanya Jackson, Samuel L. Jackson, John Palmer and Vicki Palmer from Barcelona, Spain. Later, Cedric the Entertainer and his wife Lorna also joined the group in Ibiza.

After nearly two weeks of their vacation, Magic and Cookie welcomed their children as well on their Phoenix 2 superyacht. The most recent update into the ongoing vacation has been the Lakers icon taking a stop at Da Paolina restaurant in Capri.

“I want to thank the owners for curating such a great dining experience for my family! … We definitely recommend you visit the Lemon Tree Restaurant if you’re ever in Capri! It’s one of our favorites,” he wrote in the caption to the post featuring multiple photos from the dinner night. But was Magic Johnson on time for his reservation? Well, no questions about it now.
