There has been a public feud between Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen for quite some time. Despite playing on the same team and having incredible on-court chemistry, the renowned duo doesn’t share an amicable relationship. Pippen has had a bone to pick with MJ since the documentary “The Last Dance” hit Netflix. He believes that the series showed everyone except Jordan in a poor light. Now an excerpt from Pippen’s book “Unguarded” has resurfaced where he accuses Jordan again and fans are certainly not on board with it.

Tom Haberstroh from Yahoo Sports wrote an article about the first-ever Defensive Player of the Year (DPOY) award that Jordan won in 1988. It was an analysis of MJ’s season stats, addressing ‘the authenticity of his off-the-charts steals and blocks numbers that season’. And after the article went viral on Reddit, a seemingly corroborative excerpt from Pippen’s book resurfaced on the internet. A user named Legion Hoops posted it on X. According to the excerpt, Pippen accuses that Jordan’s stats were inflated.

The excerpt read, “Say I deflected the ball and tapped it over to [MJ]. I should get the credit with the steal, right? Nope. More often than not, the steal went into his column in the stat sheet and I could do nothing about it…”

Pippen even claimed in his book that he overheard conversations about how Jordan was taken care of, by the scorekeepers. “One night a scorekeeper came into the locker room… to hand the stat sheets to Phil Jackson… I couldn’t believe the look the guy gave Michael: ‘See MJ, we take care of you,” read another excerpt from the book.

Pippen has repeatedly emphasized that the Chicago Bulls’ success was not a one-man show but a team effort. He even elaborated that the free agents were reluctant to sign with the Bulls due to Michael Jordan’s reputation as a tough teammate. But the statement that Jordan used to fabricate stats did not sit right with the fans.

Pippen had said in his 2010 Hall of Fame speech that Jordan was his best teammate. Over two decades he went on to slam him as a ‘horrible teammate’. Then again, three months ago Pippen praised Jordan for being the greatest player in basketball. So a fan called out Pippen for lying to stay in the limelight. “Scottie lying on the reg to stay relevant lmao,” the fan wrote on X.

“The Last Dance” documentary received huge appreciation from fans as they enjoyed MJ’s legacy. However, Scottie Pippen did not like how he was portrayed in the documentary. A netizen reckons Pippen has held a grudge ever since. “U know how much hate in your heart you gotta hold on to this,” the netizen wrote.

It is true that once Pippen came to the Bulls, their fortune changed. He too was integral in helping the team win 6 NBA championships. Even MJ praised his former teammate. Yet the fans have had enough of Pippen constantly throwing shade. “Dude is so salty that he got carried by MJ,” wrote another fan.

Michael Jordan’s son Marcus and Pippen’s ex-wife were in a relationship before they reportedly broke up. Michael Jordan previously disapproved of the relationship by saying “No” and laughed. However, Marcus said his dad was making a “playful” comment, following the controversy. One fan pointed out Pippen might still be hurt about the whole fiasco. “Anything to discredit the goats legacy because you’re jealous his son is with ur ex-wife,” the fan wrote.

Pippen once called LeBron James “the greatest statistical guy” to play the game of basketball ever. That’s probably why One of James’ fans was the rare X user to side with Pippen, as he called out Jordan. “LMAO THAT AINT THE GOAT,” the fan wrote
