Luka Doncic and Pau Gasol had their battlers not only in the NBA but also when they donned their international jerseys. That’s why, like many past Lakers legends, even the Spaniard is looking forward to the 25-year-old’s debut for the franchise. But ahead of the potential debut, the 5x All-Star is winning hearts thanks to his contribution from his foundation. Even Gasol, who is part of that foundation, shared his appreciation.
The 2x NBA Champion wrote, “Proud 👏🏼👏🏼.” Pau Gasol reposted the message from the Luka Doncic Foundation. “A message from @luka7doncic to Los Angeles. 💜💛” It contained a press statement from the Slovenian. “It’s been so sad to see and learn more about the damage from the wildfires since I landed in L.A, I can’t believe it and I feel for all the kids who lost their homes, schools, and the places where they used to play with their friends.”
The message further stated that the foundation is committed to helping rebuild courts, playgrounds, and fields for the kids. That’s why the $500,000 will help in building a safe space for the kids. “To everyone affected by these fires: we’re here to help, now and for the long haul. Your new neighbor, Luka.” Even though he has yet to wear the new threads on the court, Doncic is leaving no stone unturned with his off-court activities. These efforts also made him a revered figure during his time in Dallas.

Pau Gasol and his role with the Luka Doncic Foundation
The Foundation’s detailed study on youth basketball in the US and Europe, especially the Balkan region, revealed some not-so-good news. Kids are losing their joy, creativity, and exploration from the game. Another damming stat was that 70 percent of young athletes quit sports by age 13, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. To help the foundation, Pau Gasol joined them back in December.
He wrote on X: “@luka7doncic is an extraordinary player and an inspiring role model. I’m truly honored to join the @LD77Foundation Youth Sports Leadership Council. Congratulations on this incredible launch, my friend! Looking forward to the journey ahead and the positive impact we’ll make together.” Apart from the former LA Lakers star, the initial group of Youth Sports Leadership Council members includes Stephen Curry, Bill Duffy, Sabrina Ionescu, Igor Kokoskov, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, and Tracy McGrady.
