Brace yourselves, NBA fans—because nobody was ready for this! If the latest reports from ESPN sources are true, both the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers are about to shake up the league in ways that sound almost too wild to believe. The fact that even Kendrick Perkins, who’s seen his fair share of NBA drama, can’t wrap his head around it reflects the gravity of the situation. But what made the world divide on Luka Doncic’s trade? And where!

And guess what was Perks’ first reaction? Just three letters that said it all, “WTF!!!!!” And as if that wasn’t enough, he doubled down with another post, saying, “Man @ShamsCharania account has to be f***ing Hacked.” Honestly, can you blame him? Because what Shams just dropped is next-level crazy.

According to the ESPN reporter, the Mavericks are trading Luka Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris to the Lakers. Yep, you read that right—Luka Doncic! In return, the Mavs are getting Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick. But that’s not all—it’s a three-team deal involving the Utah Jazz, too.

Shams broke it down further: while Doncic, Kleber, and Morris head to LA, the Mavericks will grab Davis, Christie, and that distant first-round pick. Meanwhile, the Jazz will pick up Jalen Hood-Schifino and a 2025 second-round pick from Dallas.

Now, you’re probably wondering, why on earth would they do this? The reporter has an answer to this too. The Lakers brass believe 25-year-old Luka Doncic is their franchise guy for the next decade, while Dallas sees AD as their ticket to a win-now championship run. With two different goals, it seems both have cracked a jackpot. If this goes down, it might be one of the wildest trades we’ve ever seen. No wonder Perk’s losing it! Amid all the chaos, there have been multiple other former NBA stars who have reacted to these trade updates.

NBA legends’ varied opinions on the reports of the Lakers-Mavs trade

Trade rumors always get fans talking, but when NBA legends chime in, you know it’s not business as usual. The latest reports of a potential Lakers-Mavericks trade have sparked strong—and wildly different—reactions from some of the game’s biggest names. Once the leading face of the Mavs, Dirk Nowitzki seemingly could come up with words about his shock as he responded with just “😳”.

Given that he has had a long association with the franchise and a close bond with Luka Doncic, his reaction is understandable. Then there was Paul Pierce who did not hesitate to be vocal. The former Celtics star didn’t hold back, making it clear he’s not a fan of this move. “He not the super star La needs doesn’t fit the mold Magic Kobe Shaq LeBron just saying tho bad Move.”

Ouch. That’s not just criticism—it’s a full rejection. And given that Pierce spent most of his career battling the Lakers, his perspective on what fits their legacy holds some weight. But he didn’t stop there. He also had concerns about chemistry, adding, “LeBron and Luka I don’t see fitting.”

Fair point—two ball-dominant stars on the same team? It’s not always a recipe for success. On the other side of the debate, however, we have Dwyane Wade, who seems to love the idea. He responded with his own GIF, saying, “I love this.” Now, if anyone knows how to win with LeBron, it’s Wade. The two won back-to-back championships in Miami, so his optimism shouldn’t be ignored.

Meanwhile, Dwight Howard believes Anthony Davis’ position as the Center cost him his tenure with the Lakers. “Ad said he wanted a 5 and they traded bro damn,” D12 wrote.

And then there’s Vernon Maxwell, who took a direct shot at the Mavericks’ front office. Despite finishing his career in Dallas, he didn’t hold back, writing, “If you ever needed proof that Dallas is a special kind of stupid…” Trading away an MVP-caliber player who’s been averaging over 30 points per game? Ah, that is the beauty of trades. You bring legends to the table. Opinions, and counter-opinions, but when the Lakers trade, you know people will scratch their heads.
