Dwyane Wade may have lost at the Oscars but not at the Emmys. After ‘The Barber of Little Rock’ was nominated for an Oscar, the Flash finally landed another big achievement of his life. ‘The Dads’ by Luchina Fisher won a Daytime Emmy Award this year. As an executive producer of this special movie, Dwyane Wade’s ecstasy knows no bounds. Alongside another executive producer of the movie, Jon Marcus and Fisher, Wade posed on the red carpet, celebrating the win for a project closer to heart.

Sharing the memorable moments of the trio on his Instagram handle, Wade wrote, Hello Emmy! Congrts to @luchinafisher and The Dads! @jmarc127 and I are honored to be apart of yall team.”

His 20.2 million followers and close friends quickly jumped on the comments section to praise the basketball star for his feat. CAA Basketball co-head of marketing and services and Wade’s longtime friend Lisa Joseph-Metelus added some fire emojis, while actress and model Leyna Bloom wrote, “So major Congratulations” with a heart emoji. The executive producer Marcus also commented saying “Hello Emmy.” In his Instagram Stories, Wade shared a closer look at the award and a clip of the trio being called on stage.

After soaking in the win, “Incredibly proud,” said Wade in a conversation with Deadline, while describing how close this movie is to his heart, having grown to be a staunch advocate of the LGBTQ+ community, ever since his daughter Zaya came out.

Just last year, The Dads also won the GLAAD Media Award. Soon the short film was acquired by Netflix and launched on November 17, 2023.

The film focuses on five dads Stephen Chukumba, Frank Gonzales, Jose Trujillo, Peter Betz, and Wayne Maines join Dennis Shepard, father of gay college student – Matthew Shepard, as they head for a weekend fishing trip in rural Oklahoma. Their candid confessions and their relationship with their queer kids evidently carved a special place in people’s hearts.

Wade has always expressed how a father’s contribution to a kid’s life always goes unnoticed. This film was a nod to all the fathers in the world. “The Dads shows us the power of fathers loving and supporting their LGBTQ children, breaking through the barriers of prejudice, embracing diversity, and coming together to have these important conversations,” the Miami Heat champion said in the same interview. Seems like the star’s idea is treading the right direction.
