Last year’s Hoophall Classic wasn’t kind to Kiyan Anthony. As an uncommitted junior and sixth man for Long Island Lutheran, he had a tough outing, managing only five points on 2-of-10 shooting. Fast forward a year, and the story couldn’t be more different. Kiyan has transformed into a key player for Long Island, stepping up in big moments and turning heads along the way.
On the heels of Bryce James dazzling a sold-out crowd Saturday night, Kiyan Anthony followed suit less than 24 hours later. The Spalding Hoophall Classic became a stage for future stars, and Kiyan wasn’t about to let the moment slip.
In Sunday afternoon’s showdown against AZ Compass Prep, Kiyan led the charge, scoring a game-high 17 points. He stayed cool under pressure, sinking all six of his free throws and anchoring Long Island Lutheran to a 63-57 victory at Blake Arena. The packed house at Springfield College was on its feet as the young star cemented his MVP-worthy performance.

Another person who couldn’t hide her pride? Kiyan’s mom, La La. Known for always standing by her son, she hyped him up on a Ball Game post, commenting, “Super 🔥🔥🔥🔥.” Fans joined the chorus too, with one boldly predicting, “This is a prophecy, he’s probably going to win several MVPs when he goes to the NBA.”
The praise didn’t stop there. A fan called Kiyan “the best NBA player son 💯 (All earned not given),” pointing to his inspiring comeback from injury. After sitting out the season opener, Kiyan returned with a strong showing, dropping 11 points, dishing two assists, and grabbing a rebound in limited minutes. By his second game back, he was already claiming MVP honors—a testament to his resilience.
Some fans couldn’t help but see shades of a young Carmelo Anthony in Kiyan’s game. “Young Melo 👌🏿👌🏿👏🏾👏🏾💪🏾,” one wrote, while another added, “He really be moving like @carmeloanthony.” The parallels are undeniable—Melo was a high school and college sensation before dominating the pros, and Kiyan seems to be walking the same path.
