Skip Bayless wasn’t going to let NBA fans savor LeBron James’ newest record. He’s now the first NBA player to score 40,000 career points. However, the ESPN veteran decided to downplay the newest All-Time Leading Scorer of the NBA against Michael Jordan’s career. That’s when MJ’s once rival, Eddie A. Johnson stepped in to point out the analyst’s hypocrisy.

After James’ moment for the history books, his regular critic, Bayless wrote on X, “Michael Jordan led the NBA in scoring 10 times — to just once for LeBron James. MJ also won a Defensive Player of the Year — LeBron none. MJ: 6-0 in Finals with 6 MVPs. LeBron has as many Finals losses as MJ had wins. But who remembers any of that tonight?

Johnson, now the Phoenix Suns analyst and also full of scathing retorts on X, requoted him with this response. “But despite all that, you talk about Lebron more than any great player in the history of sports to improve your ratings.” Johnson had many agreeing with him that it wasn’t the time to stack Jordan’s resume beside James to discredit his new record.

King James accomplished the feat with 10:39 left in the second quarter. He led the team with 26 points. But his record didn’t take the Lakers to a win. The Denver Nuggets ended the game in a 124-114 win but that’s hardly being talked about.

However, Bayless is not one of those praising him. As Johnson pointed out, this isn’t new for him.

Ski[ Bayless brings MJ in every conversation

A year ago LeBron surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to earn NBA’s all-time scoring title. While everyone was praising him, the FOX Sports analysts sang a different tune. He posted a series of tweets once again belittling James’ record against Michael Jordan’s career.

It’s not limited to just his accomplishments. In December 2023, there was a brief episode between James and Ime Udoka which led to the Houston coach getting ejected. That time, Bayless tweeted,Can you imagine any coach ever daring to speak to Michael Jordan that way? NEVER EVER. And LeBron is the GOAT???” He said in the same post he’d be discussing this on Undisputed, something Johnson is taunting him about.

In a rare show of praise, Bayless said last week, “Great game by LeBron James.” That was after he turned the game around against the Clippers and won. Fans were evidently shocked he’s praising James.

Bayless went on to post several tweets through the game, all critical about James. One of them was mildly praising his “longevity” but that still dragged in His Airness in a sentence, “He has now played 15,000 more minutes than Jordan did.

The LeBron James and Michael Jordan comparisons are continuous. But Eddie A. Johnson and a lot of NBA fans are not hyped about Bayless’ inability to keep both stars separate.
