“Larry Bird, Magic (Johnson) Ain’t Even in the League”: Frustrated Isiah Thomas Gets Blunt on 1994 Dream Team Snub

Isiah Thomas has not forgotten about his alleged issue about the Dream Team of 1994. On The Draymond Green Show, he recalled how he never thought personal rivalry on the court would be used against him for selection.

Zeke said he wanted to be part of the team and few players in the league were as good as him. “Okay well and you know you always want to make the team okay I’m like okay but Larry hurt Magic ain’t even in the league no more right now.”

Isiah Thomas continued there were many injuries too plus he never had a bad fallout with any of the players. So it is hard for him to understand why he was not selected. “Right you know Stockton injured okay, I got a chance it never crossed my mind. That I wasn’t on a team because Michael Jordan didn’t want me on a team.”

Isiah Thomas on why he believed Michael Jordan

Zeke said he didn’t believe anybody would discard him from the team because of one player. “because MJ didn’t want me. And by the way at that time, you’re not thinking like somebody would have that much power. Because that was their first championship.”

He further explains how he was just as successful as the others. “Now I won 2 should have won 3, magic had 5 and Bird had 3 I had 2 . We have won the most championships in that era.” Yet people from the outside would always comment on how it was very obvious, that Isiah Thomas missing out was a political play. And not because of his abilities.

Isiah Thomas explained further he never thought because of other circumstances he was not selected. ” That some people would say oh Isaiah you you should have known that. But that ain’t how I operate that ain’t how I think. I wasn’t like going to you know oh this guy didn’t want me on the team.“

He still trusted his teammates since they told the press they had zero involvement in the decision. “And then Michael Jordan did an interview or he did a made a quote and he said hey I I had nothing to do with Isiah Thomas not being on the team. So why wouldn’t I take him at his word.”

At the time players like Dennis Rodman, and Joe Dumars also were overlooked. So according to Isiah Thomas, they thought the league would have an issue with them. It never crossed their mind that it was because of Jordan.
