Is LeBron James' longevity more impressive than Tom Brady's? Who's the real GOAT of endurance?

With the start of his 22nd season, LeBron James continues to defy expectations. The Los Angeles Lakers star now shares an elite milestone with Vince Carter as the only players to log this much time in the NBA. Naturally, the whispers of retirement have grown louder, but La Lakers legend Robert Horry isn’t convinced. Horry believes King James’ relentless drive and dedication could stretch his career even further, and opines he might as well put it to some advantage off the court.

7x NBA champ shared a video on his IG story, where he offered a unique suggestion for LeBron: share his secrets with the world. “If LeBron wanted to, he could tell everybody, listen, this is what I eat every day, this is what I do every day,” Horry remarked. He went on to propose the idea of a “How to Live Younger” guide, showing others how to replicate LeBron’s longevity.

The 7-time NBA champion believes it could be a “billion-dollar plan if he comes out with it.”

Someone having maintained a similar longevity as a professional athlete, riding into his 40s, and releasing his diet routine was Tom Brady. In 2017, the 7x champion released a book called The TB12 Method: How to Achieve a Lifetime of Sustained Peak Performance. It spoke of his career and the methods that helped him sustain. So as soon as Horry mentioned LeBron revealing his routine, the co-host couldn’t help but bring in Tom Brady.

But the LA Lakers icon believes the two are different. Rather, King James might be a step ahead, according to him. “LeBron’s doing way more than Tom Brady,” he said. “Brady might crumble if hit by a linebacker, but LeBron’s running, jumping, and soaring like he’s still 22.” Horry feels in another aspect LeBron can surpass Brady who played 23 seasons in the league.

And with Bronny James entering the NBA, LeBron seems motivated to keep going. “The crazy part is, when you watch LeBron’s game, it really hasn’t changed much over the last six years.” Laker legend said on The Dan Pattrick Show. “Now, he’s a grown man, 40 years old, and he still has that same love, like he’s 20 years old. I expect him to be around for as long as his body lets him.”

While LeBron hasn’t exactly detailed his routine and secrets in a book like Brady did, we do have a few glimpses of what his days could look like.

LeBron and Brady’s workout and diet

LeBron’s five-day workout plan is a mix of strength, basketball, and recovery. According to Hoops King, Day 1 kicks off with high-intensity strength training, including incline dumbbell presses, back squats, and barbell deadlifts. Day 2 shifts to basketball drills for two hours, followed by recovery exercises like Versa Climber sessions and weighted jumps on Day 3. Then, he’s back to strength training on Day 4 before wrapping up with another day of basketball.

On top of that, LeBron pairs his workouts with a carefully designed diet. He focuses on protein, healthy fats, and carbs to fuel his intense sessions. After workouts, he drinks protein shakes and uses compression gear for recovery. Peanut butter, a surprising favorite, helps him maintain his weight and energy.

Interestingly, Tom Brady isn’t far behind when it comes to discipline, even in retirement. Now a broadcaster with Fox, Brady shared that he’s added swimming to his workout for muscle resistance and cardio. “Color analysts have to stay in shape too!” Brady captioned an Instagram post. His routine includes sets of swimming, weighted step-ups, heavy resistance pushups, and box jumps—all repeated four times. As for his TB12, it follows an 80% plant-based diet.

The NFL star has made a brand out of it, merging with Nobull earlier this year and considering LeBron’s run, he could find no lesser success with the idea.
