Is Draymond Green's fiery nature a blessing or a curse for the Warriors' success?

Most fans would not call someone who is 6’6″ small, but what if the player has to play the role of a Center in the NBA? Considering that the league has seen players as big as Shaquille O’Neal (7’1″) and Yao Ming (7’6″) play the position, Draymond Green may seem significantly smaller at 6’6″. But still, it’s nothing to be sneezed at, especially considering the 4x NBA champ’s efficiency in his role. However, former LA Lakers star Robert Horry found it something to laugh about.

On the latest episode of the Big Shot Bob Podcast, Horry admitted meeting Dray for the first time left him confused. “I am like this… looking down. I’m like, ‘Damn dude, you a center, you look like 6-6.’ I was just amazed how short he was,” Horry said on his podcast. Well, as mentioned earlier, he is not completely wrong about Green being a center at 6’6″.

Dray is typically a power forward but his versatility has made him take the role of a center just as successfully. However, as per a listicle by NBA Queries, Green is among the shortest centers in NBA history along with the likes of Chuck Hayes (6’6″) and Wes Unseld (6’7″). But make no mistake in judging the 4x NBA champ based on his height.

If you’ve followed Green’s career, you know it’s his basketball IQ and gritty defense that makes him special. He’s the kind of player who makes the plays that often go unnoticed on the stat sheet. Whether it is setting picks, leading younger teammates, or facilitating ball movement, Green is arguably the best at it.

When you think of the Warriors’ decade-long dominance, can you imagine it without Green? His leadership and defensive skills were just as crucial as the offense of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. No wonder that when Rob Jenners accused Horry of short-shaming Dray, the 7x NBA champ didn’t hold back from highlighting how impressed he was with Green.

“I have a new-found respect for him… I always respect his game because he plays hard. He wants everybody around him to play hard…” Horry said of his first meeting with the 4x NBA champ. The former Lakers star has become a fan after criticizing Green for a long time.

Robert Horry called Draymond Green a “monster”

What’s your perspective on:

Is Draymond Green's fiery nature a blessing or a curse for the Warriors' success?

Have an interesting take?

It all kicked off after Green struck Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkić in the face, landing him his second suspension of the season. This came not long after his five-game ban for putting Rudy Gobert, the Minnesota Timberwolves center, in a headlock. Dray has always been a fiery player, but Horry wasn’t impressed with his behavior.

“Draymond gotta understand that ‘You do this all the time,'” Horry said, clearly frustrated by Green’s repeated antics. He pointed out that while players get physical all the time on the court, what Dray did was a step too far. Referring back to the infamous incident where the Warriors star punched his then-teammate, Jordan Poole, Horry recollected he had said, “You got to stop this monster before it grows into a bigger monster.”

What really stood out in Robert’s comments was his belief that these suspensions don’t really phase Green. Horry suggested that with all the money 4x NBA champ makes, missing a few games here and there doesn’t seem to bother him much.

So an indefinite ban following the Nurkic incident was a good move by the league, as per Horry. But it seems that frustration no longer exists. After meeting Draymond Green recently, Horry has termed him as a “nice guy”. Considering all the praise the 7x NBA champ had for Dray, it’s less likely that he’ll take offense to Robert’s height joke.
