Big Game James is doing Throwback Thursday right. The former Los Angeles Lakers superstar is well aware he was art in motion when it came to poster dunks. There’s no worthy (pun intended) representative for the spectacular Statue of Liberty dunk than James Worthy. He just had to remind everyone that with a little perfectly timed photographic evidence. And he knows it has a “legendary” impact.

Very few NBA stars can boast a signature move. Fewer can make a one-handed swoop look otherworldly like goggle-wearing James Worthy did.

Before Jeff Green and Kevin Durant, James Worthy was showing how it’s done. The 3x NBA champion of the glorious Showtime era made the NBA a must-watch with his spectacular moves. Keeping up with the social media weekly traditions on Thursdays, Worthy dug up the coolest blast from the past for his fans.

This #ThrowbackThursday, I found a pretty legendary photo of me doing the Statue of Liberty Dunk. #LibertyDunk #StatueofLibertyDunk #LakersNation,” Big Game James wrote with a healthy amount of pride to complement his young self making the one-handed electric dunk.

He didn’t specify when this photograph was taken. He’s had so many cinematic moments in his career, that NBA fans relive his many Statue of Liberty dunks on the 4th of July. If he was playing in the NBA today, he’d break the Internet every week.

Unparalleled athleticism made Big Game James a worthy first-overall draft pick in 1982. Fast breaks, finger rolls, and the Statue of Liberty dunk were the trademarks of the Showtime era. Whatever the Lakers needed on the court to win, he did. Often in the playoffs which earned him the nickname. His legacy as a whole earned him a spot in the NBA’s 50 Greatest Players in History.

James Worthy’s take on Lakers future

LeBron James has his own posterizing dunks throughout his career. He had his own James Worthy-esque Statue of Liberty dunk on Tim Duncan in one game. Worthy himself compared King James to the Magic Johnson he played alongside with.

Worthy believes his former team is in good hands with LeBron. But as for the future, he pinned his hopes on Anthony Davis. At that time, AD was enjoying a redemptive night. But his inconsistency has hit the team harder in the latest games.
