Some car karaoke, local treats, martial arts class, a walk around the streets and La La and Kiyan Anthony had the ultimate mother-son trip to Japan this summer. The duo had some of the most adorable moments to share, including a proud La La watching as her 17-year-old got recognized and a few clips still linger around social media today. But for one in particular, Kiyan might not be very excited.
During their week out this July, the MTV VJ was thrilled to see how many followers and fans her son had in a foreign country. “He’s loved in Japan 🥹🥰” La La had written during one instance. But apart from his basketball involvement being the point of focus, Kiyan also attracted attention for his height. At one of their stops, an awestruck bystander asked Kiyan how tall he was, and he confidently replied, “6’5.”
The person gasped as he walked away, but La La was quick to correct him, saying, “He’s 6’4. Stop lying.” She shared the clip on her IG Story. In response, Kiyan argued, “I’m what? I just got measured the other day.”

There is, indeed, a little confusion about his height, as his official profiles vary between both the numbers. As a basketball player, the 17-year-old cares a lot about his height. Kiyan had the most hilarious response after watching the Phoenix Suns veteran Kevin Durant, who is 7’1. When asked to guess KD’s height, Anthony provided an amusing answer that his father might not appreciate. “I ain’t gonna lie. I just seen him. KD’s 7’1″. My pops is like 6’8″. He make my pops look…,” Kiyan said on Overtime.
Having said that, this is just one of the instances when fan got to witness the mother-son duo’s endearing relationship. In an interview with Keke Palmer on her podcast Baby, This is Keke Palmer, the 42-year-old had stated how Kiyan is her best friend. “I think I’m a cool mom, but he also knows I’m his mom. I’m cool, but we’re not playing those games. Yes you’re my best friend and I love that we have that but I will check you in a second and don’t play with me,” she said, before adding, “It’s finding that balance because we’re so close. He is my only child. There’s a different bond. It’s been him and I through this journey and he’s been with me through his ups and downs like he’s been there through it all.”
Notably, La La is currently in a co-parenting relationship with her ex-husband Carmelo Anthony, and the duo continue to be “good representations” of a family to their teenage son. As per the mother, “At the end of the day, the center of everything is Kiyan. We want to show Kiyan that his parents love each other and we’re a family. We want to be good representations of that to Kiyan.” And going by Kiyan’s solid bond with his parents, the separated couple’s efforts have definitely worked their magic.

La La Anthony’s reality check leaves fans in stitches
“That boy rounding up but she the math police,” one comment read. La La is a supermom and has always been her son’s biggest supporter. While Carmelo might not be Kiyan’s GOAT player, for La La, her son is the ultimate GOAT. Still, she likes to keep the facts straight and was praised for it. Hence, it was natural that Kiyan could only get so far with lies.

The MTV VJ is the coolest mom, yet her motherly instincts are always sharp, especially when it comes to disciplining her son. She was quite upset when Kiyan chose Kobe Bryant and Paul George as his GOAT players over his father. “Are you serious? I’m leaving,” she had said. This trait was quickly noticed by a fan who wrote, “mamas are gon always keep you in check.”
It is evident La La knows her son well. During a game segment on the Sloane Knows podcast, she went head-to-head with him and won. It was all about who knew each other best, and she got every answer right. This just proves that moms know everything, you can’t beat her! “Bro can’t get nothin past moms lol,” a comment read.
Another fan suggested it’s likely motherly instinct, writing, “Moms be yo biggest haters & greatest fans at the same time.” It’s hilarious how La La is ready to switch her loyalty from the New York Knicks for her son. She confidently claimed she’d cheer for whichever team he joins when drafted into the NBA, even if it’s not the Knicks. However, she won’t let him get away with a simple lie like this.

Another social media user understood La La’s thought on this and said, “Moms be like tell the truth 😂😂😂😂6’4 is good.”
So, it’s either that Kiyan actually grew a bit taller, or he didn’t see any harm in fudging the truth. And if the first instance is true, this was quite a bold display of manifestation. But in any case, fans found it hilarious and for Kiyan, he will need to work on this!
