The Los Angeles Lakers, as an organization, have time and again shown the respect and admiration they have for Kobe Bryant. In another beautiful gesture by the org, the Lakers posted a photo of the 5x NBA champion with his daughters. Bryant, who time and again proudly boasted about being a girl dad, has pushed many people to start appreciating being a parent to girls. And the Lakers decided to celebrate that on Saturday night during their matchup against the Denver Nuggets, drawing appreciation from Kobe’s wife, Vanessa.

“Tonight marks our first official Girl Dad Night at the Lakers game,” read the caption of the Lakers’ post. Vanessa Bryant, re-shared the tribute post by the Lakers in her Instagram story. Extending her support to the gesture, the caption to the story read, “Girl Dad”. The photo in the post features Kobe and two of his daughters, Natalia Bryant and the late Gianna Bryant.

The Lakers also shared a post on X featuring ESPN anchor Elle Duncan. “Ahead of our first Girl Dad Night at the Lakers game, @elleduncanESPN remembers the origins of the phrase,” read the post. Duncan mentioned that she feels humbled to be associated with #GIRLDAD and the joy it brings with it. “Of course it was Kobe who not only said those words, but really backed them up with how he lived,” she stated.

It is worth mentioning that the phrase ‘Girl Dad’ gained popularity after Kobe used it in an interview with Duncan. The interview was held ahead of the birth of his fourth child, where he was asked about the possibility of having another daughter.“I would have five more girls if I could. I’m a girl dad,” said Kobe.

Kobe Bryant: The Proud Girl Dad

The Black Mamba was as good a father as he was a player, or maybe even better. Kobe’s love and affection for his daughters was evidently visible through his social media posts. The moments he shared with them, their achievements which he cherished, and their progress, which he followed, highlights of almost all such moments can be found on Bryant’s Instagram page.

However, Kobe shared a special bond with Gianna, whom he fondly used to refer to as Gigi. So much so that he instilled his love for the game in her. And following in her father’s footsteps, Gigi displayed immense talent and dedication at a young age. The Black Mamba was, in fact, a coach to her AAU team. His last public appearance too was with Gigi in an NBA game in Brooklyn. And even in their last moments, the father-daughter duo was together with each other.

Not many people have displayed pride in being a girl dad. But Kobe, as was the case on the basketball court, was a different breed. This gesture by the Lakers was only a small token of appreciation for Bryant’s contribution to the franchise, the city, and the world in general.
