Kobe Bryant, after a point in the NBA, was not just a player but a mentality. And the closest one to come to that ‘Mamba Mentality’ in the women’s basketball scenario has been Caitlin Clark, as claimed by many. The most recent one to weigh in on the comparison is Snoop Dogg.
“It’s no accident that Kobe crowned her at an early age and bringing it all to life showing us what he seen years ago. She’s such a talent. She’s making so many people watch. I’m a fan of her…” Snoop stated, appearing on The Bird & Taurasi Show. The discussion emerged after the show co-host Diana Taurasi asked the 52-year-old rapper if he has been following the NCAA games this year. And she stated how Caitlin is giving her Kobe Bryant vibes.
“The moment is just hers. She is just going in and getting by the throat,” Taurasi said on the show. Notably, Clark’s accolades throughout her career so far have put her in the spotlight. Some of her notable achievements include the most career points in the NCAA Tournament history, being NCAA women’s hoops all-time leading scorer, 2x AP Player of the Year, 3x Big Ten Player of the Year, 2x Naismith Player of the Year, and many others.

However, what makes her being compared to Kobe is her hunger to win, just like the Black Mamba. This was seen from her statement on the $5 million offer for the Big3 league. “I have other people that deal with it. They haven’t said a word to me about it. And, my main focus is on this team and helping us find a way to beat Colorado and hopefully win another one after that,” she stated, according to TMZ sports.
Caitlin Clark has Kobe Bryant’s winning mentality even in the face of defeat
In an episode of ‘B1G Today’, Minnesota Golden Gophers assistant coach Shimmy Gray-Miller also became the one to admit Clark’s Mamba mentality. “Her separating factor is her mentality, that Mamba Mentality. She does not flinch (under) pressure. She is at her best when all eyes are on her… Her separating factor is her mentality and her competitive fire. It’s unmatched,” Gray-Miller stated.

Now it is not as if the 5x NBA champion did not witness a single loss, or championship loss, for that matter. But what separated him and kept him pushing was his urge to excel in any scenario. And Caitlin Clark did something similar in the NCAA championship game against South Carolina. Though her team faced an 87-75 defeat, the 22-year-old emerged to be the highest scorer of the game from either of the teams.
Clark scored 30 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists in the game. However, with this, she has bid farewell to the Iowa Hawkeyes. She posted a photo of her shoes and jersey number 22 in her Instagram story with the caption, “I’ll miss ya”. Now the WNBA awaits players like her and Angel Reese as many hopes depend on them for the revival of the league.
