If you are into American sports, then basketball, at least at some point, makes you fall for it. The dribbles, the rebounds, the dunks, no movie can direct these. But how far can it make you fall for it? Not like Brenda Song at least! Well, she ended up in a hospital after her “psychotic” obsession with the Lakers took over. At least that’s what she says. All fans have some of the craziest stories related to their love for their NBA teams. Some have been insane, such as this one. After the Lakers won Game 7 against the Sacramento Kings in the 2002 Western Conference Finals, Song started hyperventilating. That was when the actress had to be taken to the hospital by her family. So when did her obsession begin?
Song’s love for basketball goes back to the ’90s. During this time, many, regardless of which team they supported, were watching the Chicago Bulls. The same was true for the actress, who grew up alongside her two brothers. Along with her father and brothers, she, too, watched the Bulls. “I have two brothers, but my dad, my brother, who’s two years younger than me, I grew up watching the Chicago Bulls. They’re Michael Jordan fans. Yeah. So I grew up loving basketball,” she said on Spill the Boba Tea.
However, that was until Kobe Bryant stepped into the game and changed a lot of things. “But in 96, when Kobe got traded to the Lakers, I just yes. fell in love. And that was it for me, and I’ve been a Lakers and Kobe fan forever.” And she also admitted that she considers Bryant as the GOAT.

Throwback, Bryant was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets. But soon, the Lakers traded away Vlade Divac to acquire Bryant. The 5X NBA champ signed a $3.5 million rookie deal which brought a special fan to the Lakers’ gallery.
This was also when Shaquille O’Neal joined the team, marking the beginning of another era of legends. Soon, the Lakers went on to win three back-to-back championship titles. And that is how Song became a Lakers fan. She even shared that she used to have a life-size cutout of Bryant in her room. Bryant’s tragic passing, as well as his last game, is still heartbreaking and painful for many people.

And speaking of the ring, the actress also owns a championship ring. As the actress recalled, Jeanie Buss’ sister-in-law brought her children to The Suite Life to watch the episodes, and the two would trade tickets. Back in 2009, when the Los Angeles Lakers won, she was offered the ring, and this is how she owns one.

Speaking of the story, she said, “So Jeannie’s sister-in-law used to bring her kids to the Suite Life to watch episodes. Yes. And we would try to kind of trade tickets, like trade Laker tickets for tickets to the show…So when so when we won in 09,…they offered. I mean I bought my ring but they offered me a team ring and I was like, this is the dream this is I mean it’s my claim to fame,” Song shared. But it is not just Song who fell for basketball, many among us did the same. Probably you too.
