“You’re messy,” — La La Anthony was quite concerned for Kiyan’s new phase but the vibe has now changed. Rather than spending all her time worrying about the new life that her 17-year-old is about to begin, it seems La La now wants to spend the rest of her time vibing with her son. Yep, since he has now committed to Syracuse, Kiyan will soon be leaving home to start his college life. But that’s not stopping him from having a blast with his mother in whatever months he now has at his home.

The vibe in discussion was on full display in the Power star’s IG stories. The recent gathering of La La Anthony’s closed ones had food, booze, and a karaoke system in the house. A series of stories showed the 42-year-old vibing with her friends. And then there was Kiyan Anthony, in action, on the Karaoke machine. “Now @kiyananthony is free styling,” La La Captioned the IG story featuring her son.

A much-needed break for Kiyan it seems, from not just her mother’s concerns but father Carmelo Anthony as well. On the premiere episode of 7 PM in Brooklyn Season 2, Melo opened up about how proud he is to see his son following in his footsteps at Syracuse. At the same time, he had some real talk for Kiyan about what lies ahead.

Melo’s advice? Master the basics: “You got to learn how to cook; you got to like, learn how to clean your sh*t; your apartment like all type; driving.” La La, meanwhile, couldn’t help but jump in, telling Kiyan, “You need to clean… You’re messy.”

Well, the road ahead for Kiyan is undoubtedly exciting but also daunting. Between the life skills and new challenges, Kiyan will also have to shoulder the burden of living up to his father’s Syracuse legacy. The 17-year-old, however, has hinted that he will create one of his own.

I’m my own player“: La La Anthony’s 17YO set to carve out his own identity with new beginnings

Imagine stepping into a world where everyone measures your success against a parent’s legendary legacy. That’s the reality Kiyan might face for most of his basketball career. As the son of NBA icon Carmelo Anthony and TV star La La Anthony, the pressure has already been immense. But Kiyan has a message for the world: he’s more than just his father’s son.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Kiyan Anthony step out of Carmelo's shadow and create his own Syracuse legacy?

Have an interesting take?

He has made it clear that his Syracuse move isn’t about living in Melo’s shadow. It’s rather about stepping out of it. During an episode of his dad’s 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, Kiyan laid it all out. “I’m my own player, and I want to do even bigger things,” he said with confidence that only comes from knowing exactly who you are.

Yes, Syracuse holds sentimental value. Carmelo’s name is etched in the school’s history after leading them to their first NCAA championship in 2003. But Kiyan’s choice wasn’t just about family ties. “A part of it was obviously the connection,” he admitted to Interview Magazine. “But mostly, it was about how they saw me. They recruited me for myself, not just because of who my dad is.”

It’s refreshing to see a young athlete embrace his roots while daring to dream bigger. For now, though, it’s all about enjoying these final moments at home—karaoke freestyles and all.
