For most parents, their kids following their exact path to success would be satisfactory but Kevin Garnett is not most parents. The fans of the 2008 NBA champ would know that he skipped college and landed directly in the big league, partly thanks to his low ACT scores, hampering his chances as a freshman. Not many may know this, but had this not been the case, Garnett would most probably have landed with the University of Michigan. While destiny had other plans back then, now it has brought KG’s daughter to a similar opportunity. And the ex-Boston Celtics star could not be any happier.

Kevin Garnett stepped into Michigan Stadium yesterday. Sharing his joy on Instagram, the 15x All-Star couldn’t hide his excitement. “Yessss sirrrr… Dope moment… Thx you Kapri…” he wrote, clearly bursting with pride. The moment wasn’t just about the venue but what it symbolized. His 16-year-old daughter just recently announced her verbal commitment to the University of Michigan.

Kapri took to Instagram to share the big news herself, saying, “I am beyond blessed and excited to say that I have verbally committed to the University of Michigan to pursue my athletic and academic career!!” She, however, didn’t stop there.

Her caption was a heartfelt thank-you note to everyone who had supported her along the way. The 16-year-old expressed deep gratitude to her parents, Kevin and Brandi, for their guidance and belief in her, as well as her club and school coaches who helped her grow as an athlete.

The post came with photos that perfectly captured her excitement. One showed Kapri proudly rocking a Michigan hoodie. And the other had her holding the university flag. Both moments symbolize her leap into this next exciting chapter. If you’ve followed Kapri’s volleyball journey, this announcement shouldn’t come as a surprise. She’s been a standout talent since her days at Viewpoint High School.

During the 2022-23 season, Kapri racked up 16 kills and boasted a 34.4 kill percentage in just 24 sets played. Prepdig even listed her among the standout players at the Viewpoint Tournament. Describing the 16-year-old as a rising star in the world of high school volleyball, Prepdig stated she was a sophomore sensation as a right-side hitter.

“She effortlessly transitions off the net and can deliver powerful hits over any block. Her roll shots and tips showcase precision, and she shines with overpass and cross-court kills…” it read further. More recently, however, Kapri had been honing her skills with the Sunshine Volleyball Club. Now, with her sights set on playing for the Michigan Wolverines, her potential seems limitless.

Kevin Garnett admits to almost having moved to Michigan Wolverines himself

Imagine KG–one of the NBA’s greatest–not making the jump straight to the pros. Hard to picture, right? Yet, that almost happened. According to Sonny Vaccaro–an influential figure in basketball circles–Garnett was really close to joining the Michigan Wolverines.

“He may or may not admit to this, but he was going to Michigan,” Vaccaro told to Bleacher Report. “The Fab Five guys, that whole era, Juwan Howard being from Chicago—I would’ve bet a million dollars that’s what he was going to do.”

Kevin Garnett himself confirmed this years later on the Area21 podcast. And no, he wasn’t recruited to live the dorm life in Ann Arbor. Instead, it was all about one man—Chris Webber. “I was going to Michigan because I love Chris Webber. I wanted to be Webber, man,” Garnett shared on the podcast.

But as fate would have it, his ACT scores fell low, making him reportedly ineligible for freshman season as per NCAA guidelines. It’s said this was partly a reason that KG skipped college for the 1995 NBA draft. But now, to the 15x All-Star’s happiness, his daughter is seizing the opportunity that he once passed on.
