The Boston Celtics lost their quarterfinal matchup of the NBA in-season tournament on Monday night. Yet Kevin Garnett isn’t feeling too bad about his former team. He’s got his eyes on the opponent team’s powerhouse player. A month ago KG made a pitch for this NBA star in the MVP discussion. He’s not above putting a gentle reminder that Tyrese Haliburton is very much in the running.

Haliburton led the Indiana Pacers to a 122-112 victory over the Celtics with his first-ever triple-double. With 26 points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds in 40 minutes, he’s got the numbers to back him in the MVP race. Kevin Garnett oh so casually made it known that he pinpointed it already.

In November, he tweeted, “Haliburton in that convo. What convo? Yeah… that convo.” As soon as the Pacers trashed the Celtics, he sub-tweeted himself with a neat, “Yeah, that convo…” The shaking hands emoji in the end at that touch of ‘I told you so.’

When the Big Ticket previously brought up “that convo,” Haliburton was already averaging 23.5 points in the in-season tournament. He had scored an impressive 37 points against the Atlanta Hawks, squarely wiping a lackluster All-Star debut from everyone’s memories.

Haliburton had visible first-half struggles today. He managed to catch a breather during halftime and bounce back with a 19-point second half, including recording his first career triple-double.

While he wasn’t in the MVP convo last year, he’s definitely there now. Another fierce contender for the title is one more Kevin Garnett-favorite.

Besides Haliburton, Anthony Edwards has enthralled KG with his game too. Since his FIBA run, Antman and his trash-talking skills have found a fan in KG. He told his Celtics best friend, Paul Pierce too, that the Timberwolves need to go big on Edwards. A few weeks after calling Edwards his MVP, Garnett switched to Haliburton.

He’s doubled down on that point once more in the in-season tournament knockout rounds. The Truth also gave his vote to the Indiana star, who is leading the league in assists.
