Magic Johnson passing the torch—Are Curry, LeBron, and KD the true game-changers of today?

We are witnessing a new era of talent with stars like Jalen Williams, Cade Cunningham, and more. Another rising star could be the Lakers rookie who has taken the pre-season by storm. And no, we aren’t talking about Dalton Knecht. Quincy Olivari went viral for taking a selfie with LeBron James, and why shouldn’t he? The rookie also stunned everyone with his game. Now, his wholesome interaction with his childhood idol Stephen Curry, and the influence the veteran had on him, are warming fans’ hearts. Even Magic Johnson couldn’t resist it.

“I watched Quincy Olivari’s interview after his 22-point performance last night against the Suns where he cried talking about meeting and talking to his hero Steph Curry, mentioning how he used to sleep in his jersey every night. It was powerful and it truly touched me! Everybody should go watch it back when they get a chance,” Magic wrote.

Olivari’s story about sleeping in Curry’s No. 30 jersey touched the entire NBA, including Johnson. Many have commented the same on the 5x NBA champion’s post. Olivari has been a big fan of the 4x NBA champ for years. As we can see, Curry’s game left a deep impact on the Lakers rookie.

Furthermore, many believe that the 1980s generation isn’t as appreciative of players from the 2000s. However, after hearing Lakers rookie Quincy Olivari’s story, Johnson was happy to share the crown with NBA veterans like LeBron James, Curry, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, and more.

Larry and I often get credited for helping change the game, but Steph Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant have been instrumental in the changing the game today!” Magic Johnson further wrote, passing the torch to other players.

Quincy was recently signed by the Los Angeles Lakers to a two-way deal following the preseason matchup against the Golden State Warriors. However, the biggest moment from the night came after the game when he had a heartwarming moment with Curry

Stephen Curry gifted a signed sneaker to Quincy Olivari

The undrafted rookie has been delivering his best since stepping on the court. He scored 11 points in just nine minutes during a matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks. The highlight of his performance so far was his final preseason game, where he dropped 22 points, shooting 8-of-16 from the field. At 23 years old, he has shown immense talent and is even being touted to potentially reach the level of Austin Reaves.

Word also got to Stephen Curry, who wrote a special message for the Lakers’ rookie. “Real as they come @quincyolivari,” Curry posted on X. While the Warriors star didn’t play in the game, he later took a picture with the rookie and gifted him a pair of signed sneakers. Olivari later shared the photos on his Instagram, along with an old picture of himself wearing a jersey signed by Curry. “It’s crazy because I’ve liked him since I was in sixth grade. I don’t even know what to say, man. That’s my favorite player ever,” Quincy said to the media.

The Lakers have a strong track record with undrafted players, and their new roster looks promising. As Quincy captioned his post, “Dreams do come true.” As Magic Johnson pointed out, the impact of Steph, LeBron, and KD is unmatched in today’s basketball.
