Multiple things are in motion for the Lakers. The franchise just announced JJ Redick as HC and acquired Bronny James. Despite this being Redick’s debut year as coach, fans have a lot of expectations from him. However, ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins believes that Lakers’ owner Rob Pelinka must be careful since the former Duke star joined the team as a coach.
Talking about Redick’s work ethic, Perkins stated the 2x Rupp Trophy winner is among the most talented and hardworking individuals in the NBA. The ESPN analyst further added that Lebron James teaming up with Redick was brilliant but Pelinka would also need to elevate his pace to match theirs.
“Both of those guys are also sharks meaning when you get around them you got to be on your best. You got to be on your best stuff, iron sharpens iron right, Rob Pelinka need to be careful and he need to step his game up because when you’re dealing with someone especially a guy like JJ and I know he’s the first-year head coach but JJ, he dots his i’s and crosses his t’s,” Kendrick Perkins said on NBA Today.

As per sources, both the owner and the head coach Redick are working hard to ensure the development of their acquisition, Bronny James. The NBA insider Marc Stein also revealed that the Lakers were looking to bring Jacque Vaughn and Dwane Casey on board as part of the coaching staff. Casey previously served as the Head Coach of the Detroit Pistons, while Vaughn held the Head Coach position with the Brooklyn Nets. These are quite interesting developments.
Not only has Perkins advised the Lakers owner about elevating his pace, but he has also warned him about the Anthony Davis situation.
What did Kendrick Perkins talk about Anthony Davis?
During an appearance on The Jackson Show, Perkins alluded to Pelinka and the listeners about the situation with Davis. The 39-year-old believes that the owner must add Rajon Rondo to the coaching staff as per the wish of Anthony Davis.
Davis, the 9x NBA All-Star, has always sung praises of Rondo’s basketball IQ and skills while acknowledging that he could be an important part of any coaching team in the league.
Perkins stated that Davis might leave the team if the Los Angeles Lakers failed to get back to their glory days under Redick. “I’m gonna give it till the All-Star break. If JJ Redick is not thriving… I would not be surprised if he wants out of L.A., to be honest with you,” the former Celtics star said on his show.
