Paul Pierce has undoubtedly maintained his crazy persona both on and off the court. And who other than this best friend Kendrick Perkins to recall some of Pierce’s antiques? One instance of this was when Pierce went “crazy” over a NYC bouncer who refused to take his card. Fortunately, Perkins was there to save the day, and after that incident, they became friends for life. Now, Perkins has discussed another one of Pierce’s activities.
Appearing on a podcast shared by LetsWatchHoopss, Kendrick Perkins shared one of his craziest Pierce memories. In one of the Boston Celtics practice sessions, Paul Pierce arrived and challenged everyone. “He throw $1500 on the ground. I got $1500 right now. Any one of you motherf**ker, go outside, right now…,” Perkins said. “I need to see you wanna be here.” Pierce’s fiery challenge remains a legendary story of his passion and determination to see who truly wanted to be part of the team.
Perkins witnessed Pierce’s wild side when he told them to do 100 pushups for that $1500. But there were two conditions: one, they had to be in their tights, and two, they had to do it outside, in the snow. The first thought that came to Perkins’ mind was- “I’m like shiii, I’ll do it.” And Perkins successfully completed the challenge.

Pierce then gave him his hard-fought $1500 and praised him for his courage. Perkins still remembered what Pierce said there: “That’s what fuc*** I’m talking about. He wanna be here.” The camaraderie and the competitive spirit between Pierce and Perkins were evident during their time as teammates in Boston from 2003 to 2011. The duo helped the Celtics bring home the championship trophy in the 2007-08 season, alongside Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo, and others.
While their on-court performance is widely discussed, let’s look at some of the crazy stories that the duo has shared off the court.
Pierce and Perkins: crazy incidents and brotherhood
Do you remember that “crazy” story mentioned in the beginning? Here it is. After a win over the Knicks in 2008, Paul Pierce and Kendrick Perkins decided to hit up a club in New York City. However, the bouncer turned them down because they didn’t have enough cash and wouldn’t accept their credit cards.
Upon learning that Michael Jordan had also been rejected, Pierce became furious and exclaimed, “Michael Jordan ain’t getting my type of money right now!” Perkins started by trying to calm him down, but before long, he joined his teammate, laughing and sticking to his side. And thus, began their brotherhood.
