The recently concluded FIBA Basketball World Cup turned out to be a disappointment for fans in America. While the tournament started off as a promising one for Team USA, they couldn?t match the skills and prowess of their opponents for long. This has resulted in backlash from prominent people involved with the NBA, with most of them imagining what the team for next year’s Olympics should look like. A Boston Celtics legend jumped in on the same bandwagon, leaving his old rivalry with LeBron James behind to highlight current NBA stars for the coveted positions.

The USA lost the semi-final against Germany and the Bronze medal game against Canada, ending up in the 4 overall position.

In light of Team USA?s alleged disappointing performance, an Instagram page imagined what an unbeatable roster for next year could look like. The picture attached to the post highlighted 12 current NBA stars standing on the backdrop of the American Flag and adorning the ?Team USA? jersey.

Some of the prominent players featured in the post included Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, Golden State Warriors icon Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and many more.

The post caught the attention of 2008 NBA champion Kevin Garnett. Garnett was really impressed with the team composition and didn?t hesitate to express his reaction to the same. The former NBA star wrote a caption alongside the story that read ?A Mf ONE?, accompanied by a crown and ?100? emoji. Garnett further went on to write ?THIS THE TEAM. Right here.?

 

Garnett wasn?t the only one who chose different NBA stars for this dream roster. Only a few hours ago, 3x All-Star Gilbert Arenas took to social media to express his disappointment at the alleged excuses that the TEAM USA committee was giving for their loss. Nevertheless, KG’s suggestion came as somewhat of a surprise as he shared a heated rivalry with LeBron’s teams over a decade ago.

Kevin Garnett once boasted of burying LeBron’s jersey

Kevin Garnett?s vote of confidence for a team that included LeBron James and Stephen Curry was a surprising one. This was due to the fact that the Garnett shared a long-term rivalry with each of the respective players. The Big Ticket shared an especially fierce on-court rivalry with LeBron James, with the two bringing out their A-Game against each other.

Back in September 2020, Garnett sat down for an interview with Complex Sports. During the same, he took a shot at all ?LeBron Lovers? who criticized Garnett when the latter claimed that his team ?broke? James into leaving the Cavaliers and joining the Miami Heat the same year.

“When we formed in Boston, and you can never get past that,” said Kevin Garnett during the interview. “That?s why I say, we took the jersey off in 2010, he buried that jersey under the TD Bank Arena. That 23 Bron jersey was buried under the [TD] Garden.”

While the 15x All-Star was known for his fierce personality and his matchups with LeBron proved to be memorable more often than not, he has often shared his appreciation for James’ greatness. Even though they were rivals, they had mutual respect for each other.
