They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. If that is the case, then Keegan-Michael Key is a big admirer of Shaquille O’Neal and Snoop Dogg. The 52-year-old recently made an appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show where the host put Keegan under the spotlight to showcase his imitation skills.
Keegan is an acclaimed actor and has voiced so many iconic characters. So, when Jimmy asked the actor to voice several characters and their thoughts on the Super Bowl, Keegan immediately got into action.
After voicing substitute teacher Mr. Garvey, Toad from Super Mario Bros, Coach Hines of Mad TV, and Delroy, it was time for a Shaq imitation. Keegan said (as Shaq), “It’s going to be a good game. Everybody say this, it’s gonna be close. I don’t know, it takes its time,” while struggling to keep his laugh under control. It’s pretty difficult to mimic a 7’1 giant, especially with a deep bass voice. To his credit, Keegan sounded very similar to the Big Man.

Keegan also imitated Uncle Snoop, President Obama, and one of his characters President Obama’s anger translator, Luther. Several people have tried mimicking Shaq and the man himself often mimics other people.

Shaquille O’Neal once imitated Stephen A. Smith
Stephen A. Smith is a passionate follower of sports. His platform allows him the opportunity to take on several subjects and provide his followers with opinions that are often seen as rants. One such incident was when he commented on the Kyrie Irving situation with the Brooklyn Nets and his potential return. Stephen A’s rant on ESPN caught Shaq’s attention and the Big Man imitated the ESPN anchor word for word.

Shaq uploaded the clip on his Instagram profile and the fans enjoyed every second of it. Another hilarious Shaq imitation was done by his good friend, the comedic rockstar Kevin Hart in an SNL skit. In 2017 the SNL made a skit imitating the Inside the NBA crew and the role of the 7’1 giant was played by Hart. In the skit, Hart says (as Shaq), “Yeah, well, every dog has its day. But it’s nighttime, no time for dogs. Dogs go to sleep. So it’s cat time. Cats come out at night. Freaks come out at night. Shaq a freak.” When there’s a Shaq skit, Charles Barkley has to catch a stray. Hart said, “Shut your mouth Charles. Don’t make me come over there and do some Shaq-foo on your a**!”
