“Jordan Sucks, Gilbert’s Better”: Risking Michael Jordan’s Wrath, Ex-Warriors Turned Blind With Revenge After Humiliating Comparison

Call it the confidence of teenage years, but Gilbert Arenas found himself on the wrong side with Michael Jordan while he was still playing high school basketball. More surprisingly, he did so in the 6x NBA champ’s own basketball camp. But what exactly is so daring about what he did?

Well, the 3x All-Star once got a bunch of players from the camp chanting “Jordan Sucks, Gilbert’s Better.”

Arenas had made it to the Jordan camp after his 50 points in a game during his high school days. He recalled being picked by MJ to be on his team during the camp. While he thought it was because of his previous performance, Gil now claims it was so that Jordan could be Jordan at the camp.

In simpler terms, MJ picked a team that, according to him, could not shoot much as Mike preferred carrying the game on his own. Unaware of this, Arenas went for the game rather than passing much as expected of him. The outcome obviously came in favor of the Chicago Bulls legend’s team. Arenas even got himself a comparison with one of Michael Jordan’s teammates from the 6x NBA champ himself.

The former Warriors star was hoping it to be someone like Scottie Pippen or maybe Mike himself. The Bulls legend, however, compared Agent Zero to Randy Brown. Three NBA championships to his name, but there is no denying that Brown was neither an exceptional scorer nor a defender.

“I got so mad… I got the celebrity kids, so I got little Romeo and his crew. So I said, ‘Hey, can y’all do me a favor? When we play tomorrow, can y’all just be like ‘Jordan sucks, Gilbert’s better,'” Arenas recalled on Above The Rim with DH 12. Fortunately, His Airness did not take the chants in the support of a high school kid to his heart. If anything, he let Arenas’ coach Lute Olson know that the kid deserved a spot in the playing five and not coming off from the bench.

Gilbert Arenas believes Michael Jordan was the only elite star of his era

This came after Anthony Edwards’ controversial opinion that no other player during the Michael Jordan era had skill but only the 6x NBA champ himself. The opinion got multiple ex-NBA stars like Magic Johnson and Kevin Garnett all riled up. But Arenas seemed to be in agreement with the Wolves star’s opinion.

However, he stated that skilled players like Magic Johnson should not get in between this claim. Agent Zero believes Edwards’ claim was for the majority of the players back then. Exempting the handful of skilled players that existed. But Gil stated Jordan to be a 10 with physical capabilities that no other player could keep up with.

“He was basically a Bugatti, and everybody else was a Honda Civic. All the shooting guards were 6’4″, they had no jumping ability. So who he went against, they weren’t talented. Meaning they weren’t athletic enough to keep up with him,” Arenas said on his podcast. It’s clear that Gil did not actually mean in his organized chants of “Jordan Sucks, Gilbert’s Better.” If anything, he believes Michael Jordan was the best of his era.
