Following a rocky few seasons, on and off the court, the former running mate of LeBron James found himself without a shoe sponsorship. This was particularly concerning as the former No. 1 pick is a highly touted talent and one of the bigger contracts in the league. Now, finally, his name has been called again.
Having survived the fallout with Nike, Kyrie Irving faced an uncertain future regarding his sneaker endorsement. At this crucial juncture, Irving took a bold step and signed with the Chinese sportswear company, Anta.
If the move wasn’t surprising enough, a longtime rival of Michael Jordan’s decided to show his endorsement of the deal.
Pistons legend, Isiah Thomas took to his Instagram to share a post uploaded by ‘kyriecenter’. His bond with Irving, though not previously well known, took center stage when he publicly shared Irving’s post about signing with Anta.

The post was filled up with media but the collab clip that stood out the most was exactly what Zeke shared on his story.
Choosing Anta over other major brands in this segment showed Irving’s willingness to embrace change and stand up for his principles. Even if it meant parting ways with bigger companies. After all, his deal with Nike was guaranteeing him $11 million a year. But it’s expected that his new deal with the nearly $30 billion worth company will make up for the losses.
Kyrie Irving and his backlash with Nike
In an ideal world, Kyrie Irving would just be known for his dazzling skills on the court. Unfortunately, his outspoken nature on social and political issues has often taken over his spotlight.

The former NBA champion posted a movie link surrounding a sensitive matter. This later resulted in Nike hauling the launch of the latest Kyrie editions.
Nike then terminated their association with the Cavaliers legend, immediately before the contract expired in October 2022.
