Joel Embiid is rewriting history in Philadelphia. For a franchise that has had its fair share of legendary centers in the past, the Cameroonian big man is giving them all a run for their money. After his recent jaw-dropping performance against the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson has now acknowledged the reigning league MVP.
‘The Answer’ has always shown his love and support for ‘The Process’. However, after dropping 70 points on the anniversary of Kobe Bryant‘s historic performance, AI only had one thing to say about Embiid. Allen Iverson shared an image of Joel Embiid on social media with ’70’ written on the image. He simply captioned the post, “MVP,” while tagging the 6x All-Star.

The matchup between Victor Wembanyama and the 2023 NBA MVP was highly anticipated by the fans. However, Embiid showed the world that the Frenchman has a long way to go before catching up to the Cameroonian big. Along the way, he surpassed the previous franchise record of 68 points held by Wilt Chamberlain.
Embiid was on fire the entire night. Even though he took 41 shots, he made 58% of his shots and went to the line 23 times. And to do this on Kobe Bryant’s special night meant more to Embiid, as he later revealed a heartwarming story during the press conference.

Joel Embiid was influenced by Kobe Bryant
It is not a secret that Joel Embiid was introduced to basketball at a later age than most. He was 15 years old when he first started playing basketball. However, it was Kobe Bryant who influenced the young player to focus on the game.

Embiid said during the post-game press conference, “From the time I started playing, Kobe was my guy…he was the reason why I started playing basketball. It’s funny because on the same night, he had 81.”
Embiid is grateful to Kobe Bryant for being the ultimate source of inspiration. Bryant was dedicated to his craft, and his work ethic and passion for the game motivated others. Embiid was one of them. On January 22, 2006, the Black Mamba dropped 81 points on the Toronto Raptors. 18 years later, his legacy seems to be in safe hands.
