As hours pass by, many big names in basketball are siding with head coach Darvin Ham, who was fired by the Los Angeles Lakers earlier today. It was started by Charles Barkley, followed by Udonis Haslem, and now 2013 Coach of the Year George Karl, who shared some bold claims on Twitter to back Ham. However, the highlight from his tweets is the part where he decided to throw shade at the potential candidates for the Lakers, Tyronn Lue and JJ Redick. Also, he openly pin-pointed the blame towards the Lakers.
Karl started with a sarcastic tweet that read, “JJ Redick would bring shrewd coaching insights to the Lakers and a proven track record from his years as an assistant and head coach at all levels of the sport. Sounds like a perfect fit for a team with championship or bust expectations every year.”
He later brought LA Clippers coach Tyronn Lue into the conversation as well, “So if the Lakers hire a new coach with zero experience (JJ) or one whose team just got bounced on the same timeline as the predecessor (Lue), that should fix everything right away!“

Karl was a coach in the NBA for more than two decades. He has found a difference in how the organizations are using head coaches as “scapegoats” when the season turns into a failure.

He tweeted, “Coaches are used as scapegoats for system-wide issues…The Coach becomes a part of the puzzle instead of the easy fall guy. There may be only 3-5 NBA orgs that get it right these days!“ Apart from all of this, he also took the time to credit Ham for his two seasons with the Lakers.
George Karl gets appreciative of Darvin Ham despite the internet celebrating his firing
Lakers fans are quite happy with Darvin Ham’s firing. However, George Karl did not like this decision. So he decided to appreciate Ham and also endorse him to the other teams. He shared on X, “Darvin Ham is a great coach, a better person, and is very deserving of another head coaching opportunity soon.”

Ham spent two seasons with the Lakers, where he had a record of 90-74. In the postseason, he went 9-12. There are a few teams in the NBA who have a vacancy for the role of a head coach currently. The Charlotte Hornets are one of them, and according to reports, they might be interested in signing him. Moreover, when the season ends, more vacancies might arise, which could put Ham back on the sideline.
