Less than 2 weeks ago JJ Redick claimed the NBA was watered down during the Michael Jordan era, leaving the internet divided on the GOAT opinion. On the Big Podcast with Shaq, Redick explained how six new teams were introduced in the NBA thus the quality of the league was not at the highest level. And now according to Stephen A. Smith, Redick also disapproved of another 1980s legend.

On the latest episode of KG Certified, Kevin Garnett and Smith discussed how his upbringing in NYC molded him. During the conversation, Garnett revealed he had posters of Michael Jordan, Kenny Anderson, and Dwayne ‘Pearl’ Washington.

Smith thanked him for mentioning the Brooklyn native and dubbed Washington as “the greatest show in the history of college basketball.” Washington was picked by the Brooklyn Nets (formerly known as New Jersey Nets) in the first round. He was known for his collegiate basketball days when he represented Syracuse University. Garnett said, “…JJ Redick does not know our cultural basketball. Okay, he knows what he knows okay? When you start digging through the crates and the vinyls that’s what I’m talking about.

Smith and Garnett agreed that people just had to be there to really understand the influence of Pearl on the basketball community as a whole. “Get the f**k out of here,” was Garnett’s response when he heard Redick’s statement about his idol Washington. Even Smith claimed that “I said I said he just showed your youth. You just show you you just young.” Until a few days ago Redick was at the forefront of the Lakers Coach position. But now it seems everything has slowed down a little bit with other coaches being in line for the job.

Will Redick lose out on the Lakers job?

Ever since Jeanie Buss’ organization decided to remove Darvin Ham from the position, JJ Redick has been one of the contenders. Due to a lack of coaching experience, other names are gaining momentum now. According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, JJ Redick and James Borrego are the frontrunners to lead the Los Angeles Lakers.

Other than Redick, with no coaching experience, they’re shopping among other assistant coaches. Other names in the running but a little low on the list are Micah Nori (Minnesota), David Adelman (Denver), Sean Sweeney (Dallas), and Chris Quinn (Miami). Warriors assistant, Kenny Atkinson, is also a candidate who has head coaching experience from his time with the Nets.

However, NBA insider Brett Siegel has cleared the air, predicting a possibility of a LeBron James-Frank Vogel reunion.
