Bronny James defended by ex-Warrior—are we too quick to judge young talent?

“No one bashed him (Brown) and he was the third pic in the draft.” Once again, Gilbert Arenas has sparked conversations with his bold statements. This time, the former NBA star directed his comments at Bronny James and Jaylen Brown. During a recent episode of his podcast, Gil’s Arena, Arenas addressed Bronny James’ underwhelming performance in the Summer League. 4 games in, Bronny is yet to impress the NBA community. Arenas’ remarks, however, took a surprising turn when he brought up Jaylen Brown’s early career struggles to shield the 19-year-old.

In his podcast, the 3× NBA All-Star highlighted the striking similarity between Bronny’s and Brown’s initial Summer League performances. He pointed out that the 2024 NBA champion, who was the third pick in the NBA draft, had a rough start, scoring only five out of 26 shots in his first three games. “Bronny was 6 for 26? Jaylen Brown was 5 for 26 from the field in his first 3 games in summer league,” Arenas stated.

Furthermore, Agent Zero praised Bronny, acknowledging his potential to develop into an iconic player like Brown. “Fine! That’s a good upside,” Arenas noted, emphasizing that Bronny’s lineage invites harsher criticism. He contrasted this with Brown’s experience, where the media was more forgiving. “No one bashed him (Brown) and he was the third pick in the draft,” Arenas remarked.

In a recent match against the Boston Celtics, Bronny’s performance was lackluster, averaging 2 points, shooting 1-for-5 from the field, recording 3 rebounds and 1 assist. Additionally, he completed 2 turnovers and committed 3 fouls. This performance further fueled the debate surrounding his readiness for the NBA.

Interestingly, 3× NBA All-Star Jaylen Brown was present at the LA Lakers vs. Boston Celtics game. However, another controversy arose when the camera captured Brown expressing to his girlfriend, Kysre Gondrezick, that the 4× NBA champion’s son is “not a pro.” This off-hand comment added another layer to the ongoing discussion.

As the video gained traction, Brown took to Twitter to clarify the incident. “It’s a flex to have your son alongside you in the NBA. It reflects greatness and longevity! Bronny has all the tools around him to be successful. I look forward to watching his growth,” he wrote.

Gilbert Arenas Predicted Bronny James’ 1st NBA Season

In another episode of Gil’s Arena, Agent Zero made a bold prediction about Bronny James’ rookie season. Arenas suggested that Bronny will have a minimal role with the team, spending most of his time supporting his father from the bench. “Go Daddy Go! … Okay, what you need? Some towels, here is some water,” he said, humorously implying Bronny’s supporting role. The former Golden State Warriors icon also recommended that the younger James should spend some time in the G-League to hone his skills.

After the first two Summer League games, Bronny opened up about his performance in an interview. “I am in a little slump right now,” he admitted. The immense pressure on 20× NBA All-Star LeBron‘s 19-year-old son is evident, and his below-average games are not helping his confidence.

While addressing his statement, in another podcast, Arenas and his crew rallied behind Bronny. Panelist Kenyon Martin emphasized that the newness of the professional level was a significant factor in Bronny’s struggles. “So you are not in a slump, young fella!” Martin encouraged, pointing out that adapting to the NBA would take time.
