Not many players can boast of leveling up with Michael Jordan but Kevin Durant is a different breed. The Phoenix Suns superstar has accomplished nearly everything there is to accomplish during his NBA career, but he added a new major milestone to his list. Something that no one else has done besides Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain.

Durant officially became the third-fastest player in league history to reach 30,000 career points. In a league with legends like Kobe Bryant, Karl Malone, and Dirk Nowitzki, Durant just sped past them all. Naturally, the NBA world couldn’t hold back their excitement. Former players, fans, and analysts all chimed in to give the Slim Reaper his flowers, and one of the first in line was Jamal Crawford.

“One of the greatest that’s ever touched a rock.. 30k, congrats Kev,” Crawford wrote on Instagram. Now, Crawford and Durant may have never worn the same jersey, but their careers overlapped for years. So Crawford knows exactly what KD can do. And that’s exactly what Durant showed with his 34 points against the Memphis Grizzlies, reaching the 30008-point mark.

Now, imagine this: if Durant hadn’t lost the entire 2019-20 season to an Achilles tear—or if injuries hadn’t limited him to just 35 games in 2020-21 and 47 games in 2022-23—he’d already be closing in on the all-time top three scorers. Nonetheless, he sits at a still-ridiculous milestone, proving that even with setbacks, he’s one of the most unstoppable scorers the game has ever seen.

No wonder the love kept pouring in. Shawn Marion got in on the action, taking to his Instagram story to post about KD’s latest achievement. No long-winded caption, just a simple tag and a bunch of raised-hand emojis—signifying celebration of the milestone that the 14x All-Star has achieved.

Then there was Andre Iguodala, who kept it even more low-key. He shared an image of Durant without any words. No caption, no extra flair—just an acknowledgment of greatness. And honestly, sometimes, silence speaks louder than words.

It’s only right that the NBA world stops to celebrate this moment for Kevin Durant isn’t just racking up points—he’s making history every time he steps on the court. Now tied with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the third-fastest to hit 30,000 points (in just 1,101 games!), he’s once again proving why he’s in a league of his own. But the question is: how far is he willing to push?

Is Kevin Durant the most unstoppable scorer of this generation, or does he still have more to prove?

Have an interesting take?

Can Kevin Durant propel himself into the top 3 scorers in terms of total points?

KD has been one of the most gifted scorers in NBA history, but can he climb into the top three on the all-time scoring list? Right now, he’s averaging 26.9 points per game this season, which seems like a realistic pace for the next two years. But here’s the big question—can he stay healthy?

Ever since tearing his Achilles in the 2019 NBA Finals, injuries have reared their ugly head as a recurring problem for him. This season, though, he’s been rock solid, playing all 39 out of 39 games. If the Suns star keeps this up and plays at least 70 games this season and 70 more next season—just like he did in 2024—he’s set to surpass Michael Jordan and crack the top five by the end of next season.

His Airness retired with 32,292 points, so Durant still needs 2,284 to pass him. But even after that, there’s another massive hurdle—Karl Malone. To reach the top three, KD would need an additional 4,637 points.

Even if he maintains his current scoring average and plays at least 75 games in both 2027 and 2028, surpassing Malone will be extremely tough. But that’s a concern for the future. For now, let’s cherish the player Kevin Durant turned out to be.
