“Only if they let me…” NBA legend Jamal Crawford’s humorous reply to a fan has gone viral on X. After “Jamal Wick” uploaded a couple of clips showing his hops in a pick-up game, a fan asked him to join the Los Angeles Lakers. Interestingly, the Lakers have still not made any new additions to the team this offseason apart from the NBA Draft. They remain the only team without a trade or free agent signing. Hence, the request from the fan. Nonetheless, J-Crossover’s hilarious response included three demands before he’d consider it.
He demanded to announce the game from commentary in the first half, play in the second half, and then provide post-game analysis. “Only if they let me call the game the first half, play the second half, then do post-game analysis in the studio post game,” he posted, accompanied by one smile emoji and one swag emoji. This response not only highlighted his humorous side but also his deep understanding of the game.
This conversation started after Crawford shared two clips on X, where he can be seen doing what he does best. In one caption, he trolled his opponent, writing, “He fouled me the first play and said “ nah, no foul” so of course Jamal Wick had to teach a lesson the very next play down! !” and mentioned his eight successive victories. Seeing this display, the Lakers fan had to ask. So the 44-year-old shared his three demands.

Delving deeper into his comment, we can spot a few details. Throughout his 20-year NBA career, J-Crossover played for 9 different teams but never the Lakers. Drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers, he was traded to the Chicago Bulls in 2000. His second demand to play in the second half subtly nods to his well-known role as a super sub, having won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award a record three times.
Finally, Jamal Crawford’s first and third demands hint at his post-NBA career. Since officially retiring in 2022, he has embarked on a new journey in the NBA entertainment industry.
Jamal Crawford Embarked on a New Post-NBA Journey
In an interview with Forbes, Jamal Crawford revealed he never envisioned himself joining television as an announcer. “I thought I’d be a GM, to be honest with you,” he admitted. However, after filming an episode of ‘Inside The NBA’ in TNT studios, he discovered a new passion. When TNT offered him a role as an announcer, Crawford was thrilled to accept.
Moreover, J-Crossover shared his delightful experiences working alongside Reggie Miller and Kevin Harlan, whom he described as the soundtrack of the game. Reflecting on this new chapter, he expressed, “This has been like a dream,” highlighting the joy he found in his new broadcasting role.
However, the transition wasn’t entirely smooth. J-Crossover opened up about the disappointment he felt after leaving the Brooklyn Nets in 2020, revealing he was depressed when no teams approached him. Despite this, he mentioned that 6-7 teams showed interest in him for front office roles, but he felt disheartened. “I can still play, I won Teammate of the Year,” he shared, underscoring his desire to continue playing.
