Ja Morant can be the face of the NBA, believes 7x champion Robert Horry. The wait is over for the Memphis Grizles fans, as their star player, Ja Morant, finally returned to action on Tuesday night after serving his 25-game suspension. Reminding fans of his greatness in his first game back, this Los Angeles Lakers legend did not hold back his praise for the 2x All-Star and also revealed a secret about his son in the process.

When you watch him, you can tell that he was so excited in the first half that he wasn’t himself. In that second half, he kinda settled into himself and went back to being Ja, who, I would say, he could be MVP, he could be one of the faces of the NBA. And let’s face it. The guy is freaking talented. Extremely good… I know he is my son’s favorite player. So welcome back, Ja, and way to come back,” said Robert Horry during a recent episode of the Big Shot Bob Podcast.

Ja Morant’s return was nothing short of exceptional. With his athleticism and flashy finishes, it is not surprising to hear that Horry’s son’s favorite player is Morant. After missing over a quarter of the season due to off-court reasons, Morant made a resounding statement that he is still the player that he has always been. Just like Horry said, it only took Morant 2 quarters to get back into rhythm. After scoring 7 points in the first half, Ja Morant scored 27 points in the second to overcome a 24-point deficit.

What made this return even more memorable was the game-winner at the buzzer. With less than 10 seconds left on the clock, Morant received the ball from behind the hall court. With his mind set on one goal and his head tucked down, Morant drove straight to the basket. The ball went in right as the buzzer sounded, leaving the Pelicans with no chance of making a counter.

Ja Morant is giving hope to the Memphis Grizzlies

Over the first 25 games of the season, to say that the Memphis Grizzlies struggled without Morant would be an understatement. In the 2022 season, the Grizzlies were second in the West with 51 wins. But as Morant was not available to start off this season, the Grizzlies had a horrible turn out. They had a 6-19 record without Morant and were completely out of the playoff picture.

But with Ja now making his return and winning his first game back, along with Marcus Smart set to make his return from injury soon and Brandon Clarke hoping to make a return by the All-Star break, the Grizzlies still have a chance to push for the playoffs.
