While basketball fans rarely agree on anything, perhaps the most divisive of all topics is the GOAT debate. Whether Jordan or LeBron, everyone has a side. And it is a side they will defend to the ends of the earth. So, it was no surprise that the argument resurfaced yet again, this time in the comments section of a motivational speaker’s post.

Mike’s legendary mentality, which landed him in the discussion for the Greatest Of All Time, became the topic of conversation. While the motivational speaker used it to make his point, NBA fans reignited the continuous feud.

Michael’s mentality becomes the keynote

The legendary mentality of Michael Jordan earned him many accolades. Whether it was Chicago Bulls teammate Scottie Pippen calling him a “horrible teammate” or the GOAT conversation, the source for both was the same. But it was his mentality itself too that helped him improve his game, without a doubt.

When he first came into the league, Michael was an aerial wizard. However, once the Detroit Pistons exposed his playstyle, Jordan worked hard to become one of the most prolific mid-range assassins. When questions about his passing came into the picture, he took the role of point guard for 11 games, averaging double-digit assists.

Whenever slighted, Michael Jordan’s response was always to get better. It was this mentality that Saul Blinkoff used for his keynote address. The 50-year-old shared a story of Michael and a sportswriter from the 1987 season. After one of his games, the sportswriter criticized MJ’s defense. Rather than ignoring it, Jordan used it as fuel to become the 1988 Defensive Player of the Year.

While Saul was trying to inspire a similar mentality, his comments about the GOAT debate are what led to a comment section war. At the beginning of his speech, Blinkoff asked the group who the greatest basketball player of all time was. But he claimed that the question was rhetorical with only one correct answer. Further, he jokingly asked people on the LeBron James side to exit the room.

Poor Saul, he never knew the consequences of his actions. The NBA fandom descended in the comments and the Jordan-LeBron rivers of blood ran anew.

While Jordan certainly has an argument, to completely dismiss LeBron’s case is what caused the mass hysteria over the video. Just as arrogantly, a fan commented, “It’s LeBron. Next question.” Another fan on?King James‘ side flexed his comedic chops. “I missed the rest. I walked out of the room with the Lebron crowd.”?

More people attacked his example, labeling Jordan’s competition as weak. “Mike didn?t have to guard people like Lebron. Can you imagine if Mike had to guard KD? Please. Turn his mic off.”?Another fan pointed to the same biases against the Cleveland Cavaliers and Lakers legend, “And LeBron isn?t labeled a scorer yet he?s still #1 all time points.”

One fan best explained the entire argument. “That’s not the thing that separates him from Lebron. Anyone who thinks that MJ is automatically the goat, they don’t really know basketball. It’s not that cut and dry. You can think MJ Is the goat but it shouldn’t be an easy answer if you know basketball.”?

But the Hollywood veteran Saul found a few supporters as well, “M.J the GOAT?His game speaks for itself, no self promotion needed!”?Another fan seemingly called out LeBron’s propensity to “flop,”?“That?s exactly right. I try to tell ppl. Man was different. No flops allowed.”?
