A few hours from now, a select group will join the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. It’s an honor that has only been bestowed on 436 others. After all, the ceremony marks the most unique contributions to the sport of basketball. This year, that includes Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade and WNBA’s Becky Hammon.

As they anticipate the historic moment, the two prominent basketball personalities open up about a difficulty they faced leading up to it.

Dwyane Wade opens up about his struggle to write the perfect speech

Amongst the six NBA players and coaches who will be honored during the momentous occasion is three-time champion Dwyane Wade. Having devoted over 16 years to the NBA, Wade has led the Heat to victory in three championships and been named a finals MVP in 2006. For the skills and toughness he displayed on the court, the 13x NBA All-Star will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Leading up to it, Wade sat down for an interview with the ?Chicago Sun Times?. While touching upon various topics, the point of discussion shifted toward the induction speech that he will be giving.

?This is one of the hardest things I?ve ever had to do when it comes to writing,? said Wade during the interview. ?I actually just changed some stuff right before I came here. I hope I didn?t mess it up.?

Wade is set to be introduced by his idol, Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson. The former player?s choice became a subject of headlines since many people assumed that he would choose his former teammate and longtime friend Chris Bosh.

Wade is not the only one who is facing stage fright and last-minute doubts. Joining him in the struggle is Las Vegas Aces head coach Becky Hammon.

Following in Wade’s footsteps, Becky Hammon states her own dilemma

Hammon went from an undrafted rookie to a prominent player who defied expectations at every turn. After 16 seasons, she retired in 2012. Big Shot Beckt would go on to work as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs before joining the WNBA team that has gone to the finals three times.

Notably, she became the first woman to act as head coach during an interim term with the Spurs.

Opening up during an interview with ESPN, the 6x WNBA All-Star revealed the problem she faced regarding her speech.

“I’ve basically had writer’s block,” said Hammon during the interview. “I do a lot of speeches in the offseason. I write long speeches even though I don’t want to hear myself talk that long. This is only going to be a five- or six-minute speech, but it’s been really hard to articulate what the game has meant to me.”

For someone who doesn?t have a problem figuring out what to say during team huddles, Hammon sure did feel the jitters as she felt the impact of having to address the game that has shaped her life.
