Teams are 0-156 in history after losing the first three games, and the Boston Celtics have the chance to win the record 18th championship. It was back in 2008 when the Boston side enjoyed success and Paul Pierce was the last champion. Now Pierce has some ‘script’ according to which the Celtics are winning the championship after 16 long years.

Recently, Skip Bayless, Paul Pierce, and Keyshawn Johnson discussed the game 5. Additionally, they laid emphasis on how the Celtics are at the precipice of the Finals win & 18th championship. Pierce said, via Undisputed, “I know that they’ll (Celtics) be ready because there’s no way, there’s no way they leave the jungle not the garden, the jungle today without a victory and that trophy held high.”

Bayless confirmed with him if he was guaranteeing a win today. Pierce said there is no scenario where he sees his former side losing. “I said from the beginning, Skip, that it was going to be a five-game series.” His reasoning was simple he doesn’t really think the Mavericks’ 38-point victory was a problem. Since “it was just a lack of, uh, effort” and did not expect Dallas to start the game the way they did.

It showed him that Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks weren’t going down without a fight. However, he can guarantee the win because of another ‘script‘ reason. “But when I look at the script again, the last time Boston Celtics won a championship was in 2008…You know what the date was? 6/17. That’s today, that’s today. We are right on script,” said Paul Pierce.

Let’s also look at the script that was written 16 years ago by the Big 3 era of the Celtics.

Remembering Paul Pierce’s Celtics 2008 win

The Celtics won their 17th championship in 2008. It was the first year of the team’s “Big 3” era of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen serving as the team’s three stars, and they won 66 games during the regular season. Boston endured tough tests from the Hawks, Cavaliers, and Pistons en route to the NBA Finals. The series against Detroit was the only one that didn’t go seven games (it went six).

The Celtics met the Lakers in the NBA Finals and beat them 4-2. They defeated the Kobe Bryant-led squad in Game 6 at the TD Garden, outscoring them 131-92 in a final-game beatdown to clinch the title.

Pierce was named the series MVP after averaging 21.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per game on .432/.393/.830 shooting splits. The victory also spawned Garnett’s famous, “Anything is possible!” shout, which has since become a popular Internet meme.
