Dwyane Wade is the newest NBA legend to start his own podcast. This has been a recent trend and several current and veteran NBA players have started their own podcasts. Wade’s latest venture is already off to a flying start with his first few episodes featuring some of the bona fide legends of the game.

Wade’s podcast is called The Why with Dwyane Wade and there’s an interesting story behind why the NBA veteran chose this particular name. During a recent interview on CNBC, the Miami Heat legend talked about his podcast.

He said, “I had a roundtable with Dirk, Tony, and Pau. That was the first podcast interview that I have ever done. And I got a chance to do it at the Hall of Fame.” The three guests were also part of the 2023 Hall of Fame class alongside the Heat legend. When asked about why he came up with that name, he said he was tired of people misspelling his first name. Wade said, “The name of my podcast is The Why with Dwyane Wade. It actually has another double entendre, it is because my whole life people have misspelled my name. They’ve always put the ‘a’ before the ‘y’.”

“So I want to make sure that I claim my ‘y’ as well in my name,” he added. Two episodes of his podcast have been released so far, the first one featuring his fellow Hall of Famers and the second one with another Heat legend Pat Riley.

Dwyane Wade’s curiosity made this podcast a reality

When the podcast was first announced, D-Wade gave an insight to his fans on why he decided to step into this game. The 3x NBA champion said, “As someone who is always curious and wanting to learn, I am looking forward to sitting down with some of my friends, peers, and people I admire most to hear more about their ‘why’ and what motivates them to get up every day to do what they do.”

Wade is also following a rare format for the release of the episodes of his podcast. Every conversation with his guests is released in two parts and follows the standard weekly release pattern. This collaborative work between iHeartpodcast with Wade’s 59th & Prairie Entertainment will welcome new guests such as rapper Rick Ross, D-Wade’s old friend Carmelo Anthony, and Lindsey Vonn, among others.
