Even after all these years, Isiah Thomas’ feud with Michael Jordan remains as fresh as ever. Like Scottie Pippen, Thomas too had issues with the memorable The Last Dance docuseries. Jordan calling Thomas an “a**hole” on TV was what seemingly worsened the situation. Thomas continues to tweet about it and often brings it up during his podcast appearances as well. Now, the series’ director, Jason Hehir, made a confession about his interview for the docuseries with the Detroit Pistons legend that might leave fans stunned.

Hehir admitted feeling bad about the way things turned out with Thomas feeling disrespected. Despite growing up as a Boston Celtics fan, Hehir admired Thomas. That is an extremely rare situation considering what the two rival teams went through in the 80s. Nevertheless, he recalled that during the interview shoot, the Pistons icon asked him who had the most control over the narrative. At that time, Hehir assured Thomas that he was in “responsible hands.”

“I’m not too psyched to be in the same room with him again (Thomas and a few others who feel slighted). I don’t know that I would get the chance to explain myself. But he pulled me aside, this is why I feel especially bad. We did the interview down in Atlanta… he pulled me aside and said who is making the decisions on the storytelling and I said, ‘Me,’ and he said, ‘What kind of research have you done,’” Hehir revealed on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast. Even Phil Jackson did the same thing before the interview.

He added, “Essentially, I was trying to impart to him that you’re in responsible hands and I believe that he was still. I can see though how especially the use of the iPad these guys would be like, ‘What the f**k?'”

In the docuseries, Thomas provided a complete explanation for why the Pistons infamously refused to shake hands with the Chicago Bulls players after the 1991 Eastern Conference Finals.

Hehir then handed an iPad to Michael Jordan to show him the entire explanation. However, Jordan didn’t accept it and simply said, “You can show me anything you want. There’s no way you can convince me he wasn’t an a**hole.” This comment was quite shocking to Thomas, who later took to social media to express his disappointment and demand an apology.

Isiah Thomas wanted a proper public apology  from Michael Jordan

Thomas said that he believed the rivalry was just on the court and didn’t expect such a comment from MJ. As per sources, His Airness apologized to Thomas through his PR team, but Thomas wanted Jordan to publicly apologize to him. As mentioned by the hosts of the podcast, the NBA legend keeps tweeting about it. “You said that on national television. Now if you didn’t mean it, get on national television and apologize for it. Now if you meant it? Let it ride as it is,” Thomas said.

The situation intensified when Charles Barkley confessed that Thomas was snubbed from the 1992 roster because Michael Jordan wasn’t in favor of his inclusion. The Detroit Pistons legend also tweeted about that on his X account. A public apology from Jordan would be historic, however, it seems unlikely.
