The rumors of Isaiah Thomas making his NBA comeback have been going on for a while. The 34-year-old has been very vocal about his wish to get another chance in the league. While there is a lot of uncertainty around that for now, he recently unveiled what his “ultimate goal” in life is.

Thomas has been in and out of the league since 2021. Although he did get a chance to play for the Charlotte Hornets in 2022, as of now he is out of the NBA with no teams to sign with. Amidst the rising speculations about his NBA career, he recently talked about wanting to follow in his coach’s footsteps.

Isaiah Thomas wants to follow in his coach’s footsteps

During a recent conversation with Forbes, Thomas talked about his future plans. The 2x NBA All-Star said that a lot of credit for his NBA success goes to his coach Lorenzo Romar. He said that he still feels a deep personal connection with Romar and his university. Thomas said, “At some point, I want to be the head coach at the University of Washington. Within the next five to ten years, that would be ideal. I want to try to take the program to the heights that Coach Romar took it to.” The ex-NBA star said “That’s the ultimate goal” for him.

However, he has not yet given up on his NBA dreams. Thomas is still looking to make a comeback in the league and only after he retires, he will look forward to taking up a coach’s role. He said, “I’m still trying to play the game of basketball. I want to get back to the NBA. So, I’m still working out and staying ready.”

The 34-year-old has been speaking about his wish to make a comeback to the league for a long time. He says that he’s preparing and wants to be ready for the call, if and when it happens.

Isaiah Thomas’s comeback

Although Thomas has been out of rotation and hasn’t had game experience at all this year, he believes that he is keeping up with the requirements and is still eyeing a comeback. The 5’9 guard has been unfortunate in his career as he was on a great run back in 2017. However, it all fell apart due to the injuries he sustained.

A comeback at the age of 34 doesn’t sound like an impossible feat, however, it is not common either. For Thomas to believe that he still has what it takes, he must be preparing for the big day. As fans, we can only hope to see his comeback to the hardwood.
