The tide has finally turned the right way. The legendary member of the Showtime Lakers will finally receive the ultimate honor. After having a phenomenal career, winning five championship titles with the Lakers, the former NBA player has built an equally impressive coaching career, leading star rosters for both the Los Angeles Lakers and the Sparks, and more. Earlier in 2024, he was announced as an inductee into the Hall of Fame.
The current generation knows what an impact Cooper has had on the sport. However, anything about his married life and family has mostly remained an unintentional secret from fans.

The Lakers legend’s historic accolades, including five NBA All-Defensive First Team selections and more, are well documented. However, it’s not known when the coach tied the knot with his wife, Yvonne Cooper. The two are happily married and recently celebrated their wedding anniversary this month.
In his message for his wife on Instagram, Cooper had all the sweet words of appreciation. For the celebration, the two attended Yvonne’s favorite band, Earth, Wind & Fire’s concert. The Italian All-Star Game MVP shared an adorable clip of the two walking toward the concert grounds and a few glimpses of the event. “Celebrating our wedding anniversary by taking my wife Yvonne to see her favorite band @earthwindandfire at my old playground! Awesome concert!!” Coop wrote.

He also shared another clip of himself posing alongside Yvonne on Instagram. “I am enjoying this heat and summer!” he captioned it. Since both were in their vacation clothes, it’s safe to assume the two were on a trip.

The clip also had pictures from the entire trip. Some showed the couple posing alongside friends. “Great times with wifey and friends,” he wrote. Right ahead of the Hall of Fame induction ceremony, the couple seemed to be enjoying their time together. The two have four kids, Michael, Simone, Miles, and Nils.
This is his second marriage. The veteran coach was married to Wanda Cooper for 33 years. It is not known when the two got divorced.
In the absence of family, Michael Cooper’s teammate supported the NBA legend
Cooper was born in Los Angeles, and most of his memories are tied to this place. He won five NBA titles playing alongside Magic Johnson, James Worthy, and more.
After his retirement, he began his coaching career, starting as an assistant coach for the Lakers. It was as if destiny and his efforts were in sync when he headed to coach the WNBA team, Sparks. Under his guidance, the team won two championship titles.
In 2014, when he joined the Atlanta Dream as coach, he faced one of his biggest challenges. Far from his family who were in Los Angeles at the time, Cooper was balancing well being and his coaching duties. The staff and team members did everything they could to support the veteran.
He eventually underwent surgery to remove 55 lymph nodes, but none of these obstacles were big enough to stop him. As soon as the doctors gave him the green light, he returned to work. Currently, he is coaching the dedicated team at California State University, Los Angeles.
For his Hall of Fame presenter, the veteran coach initially believed that his former rival Larry Bird could have been his presenter. This was his wife’s suggestion. He even discussed the matter with his wife. “That would be so ironic. Him saying I was the best he ever played with. I’m saying he’s the best I played against. Larry would get up there with me. But that would be so weird,” the Los Angeles Lakers legend suggested on Showtime with Coop. His former teammates, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, and former coaches, Pat Riley and Lisa Leslie will be his presenters at the event.
