Arenas met Govan during his time with the Golden State Warriors. Govan was also working for the franchise. The two soon started dating in 2002. The two maintained their long-term romantic relationship. However, in 2014, the two decided to part ways.
During their 12-year relationship, the couple welcomed four children named Alijah, Aloni, Izela, and Hamiley. While the two stayed together for a long time, Arenas and Govan didn’t get married. The two had quite an ugly separation followed by Govan filing a lawsuit against her ex-boyfriend. Before we reveal the drama and Arenas’ finance management fiasco, let’s find out more about Govan.
Who is Laura Govan?
Laura Govan was born in Oakland, California, and has two sisters, Gloria & Lonnie. She had a passion for football and even acquired a Master’s degree in Sports Psychology.
After leaving a job opportunity at Santa Clara University because she was pregnant, Laura began her career in the entertainment industry. Well, Arenas might have had plans to get married. They were deeply in love during their relationship. He even proposed to Govan. Then what happened between the two?
The time when Gilbert Arenas switched out the ring with a fake one
In a conversation with DJ Vlad, Arenas shared that just a day after he proposed to Govan, the two broke up. However, he regretted giving her an expensive diamond ring worth around $395,000. So, in order to get back the ring, he reunited his love with Govan. And when the right time came, he switched the ring with a fake one which cost him around $10,000.
“When we broke up I’m like that was a f***g waste of money I want my ring back. So I was like how do I get my ring back? F**k it I just got to get her back but when she comes back I’m ma have a fake one and I can switch it at any time and then that’s what I did. Had the fake one created then started hey missed you come on back and do all that stuff,” Arenas shared.
Not to mention, this was years before the two officially broke up. It was quite a long-term and well-planned trick indeed. He used the money that he saved from the ring to pay for the lawsuit filed against him by Govan.
Why is Gilbert Arenas against marriage?
The former Washington Wizards player previously stated that marriage is expensive. Well, few can argue with Arenas on that point. He further stated that he would get married only when the marriage laws were changed.
During his podcast, a fan asked him the same question. In response, he said that he is not married and that it is expensive. He further added that women have a lot of demands such as luxury Birkin bags, eating out at an expensive restaurant, and a lot more. Here is the clip for you to see his response. The caption read, “Gilbert Arenas says marriage is too expensive and he’d “rather pay 200-250$ and skip right to the good part.”
